I just bought one for my wife on the 11th. (fully loaded 20") Last night my shipping estimate changed from the 17th to the 24th. So what happens if they get a bump on tuesday? Do existing orders get upgraded to that model tier? Price drops? Nothing?

i ordered an iMac on monday, 2/14...estimated shipping was thursday, 2/17. that has now been pushed back until thursday, 2/24.

It's good to know "real" orders are matching the store ship estimate. Apple is either out of a part, or updates are imminent.

vieoray and Xenious, did you order a BTO machine or a stock one with no upgrades?

I'm inclined to think that if you ordered a stock machine without any upgrade, then this has to be a sign that an updated model is imminent as SteveC said.

Mine was BTO:
1 gig memory
250 gig HD
Bluetooth
802.11g wireless
Hmm, that might change things a bit, but of course, all we can do is "guess" at this point. 🙂 By the middle of next week, we'll know a lot more.

I'm willing to bet a fair chunk of change that this new iMac comes with the same power supply all over the world (100-240V). I have a very good reason to believe this although I probably shouldn't say why.

Well isn't that a statement that doesn't beg for more information. If you're not going to tell anyone, don't say it. 😉 If you are, tell. 😛

I called Apple today and playedLike I wanted to order an iMac. When were were all done and he said it iwll ship in 5-7 days, ( I got he 160GB HDD and more RAM) I said why? Just three days ago i built this online and it said same day shipping?

He said, well the demand is really high right now and it comes from over seas.

so I said no thanks and we said our goodbyes. IM sure that is their "pat" response, but just letting you know what he said.

does make some sense............to me.

anyways, I am going to wait for a revision whether it is now or in two months. I just cant buy one with the current graphics card, evrything else can be upgraded, RAM, HD and bluetooth, etc. and the G5 chip is fine with me too, it is a consumer product, and 90% of all people that buy an iMac will never use 90% of its power. Its just the darn graphics card!!!!!

Wise choice. Apple is using near pathetic video in every product and is the only thing propping up those powermac sales. If they had decent meaning medium or better grade GPUs in iMac and Mini there wouldnt be a reason for most consumers to even look at powermac. Its not consumers who want a big all tower when its not needed. all i can say is voice your opinion about their crappy graphics.Tell Apple and make sure they hear you.

Maybe some truth to that then?

Student: So the mac mini is xxx$ that I need
Parent: I thought you said it was only $499?
S: Well it is, but you upgrade it.
p: Well how much more is the iMac?
s: yyy$
p: Well thats not much more would you rather have it?
s: ok

result: mac mini hype results in iMac G5 purchase?

I'm grasping here! hahaha

Maybe they're updating the iMac line because it has a serious hardware problem, and they didn't want it to be the next iBook G3 dual USB.

I have had an iBook G3 dual USB that has worked flawlessly for almost 4 years. Could you explain the iBook problem that you're comparing to this iMac G5 display issue?

BTW, I'm enjoying reading this thread...waiting for that iMac update!

Bump - looks like it will be delayed again. I got off the phone with apple and the gentleman i spoke with had no idea why it was delayed or how long it would be delayed. He did guess that it would be delayed again and ship in 2-3 days. What is up with this?

Sucks that this is for my wife and right now her PC is having serious hardware issues and she got her laptop so infected with spyware it is taking me a while to clean it up. I fear that she will decide to balk at the Mac and get another Windows box instead. yuk!

Are stock iMacs available at retail stores?

same boat...i called and they knew nothing. mine was supposed to ship on or before today. i guess it will be delayed once again. argh.
