I really cant see the logic in apple's folly on insisting on mobile components on a desktop! I hope apple listen to their customers and include decent dGPUs in the next Imac

I also predict 4K will be the next revolutionary milestones for the imacs, that functional, over silly things like siri, air gestures and levitating, transforming lightening docks

There is only one mobile component on the iMac last time I checked.

Next Re-Design will probably be next year as this years model wasn't a major change. How big the redesign will be is anyones guess.

I don't know, I just can't see it next year already seeing a change in design when people were just starting to receive their 27" redesigned iMac last December.

obviously the next redesign will be the thinnest iMac we've ever made with an all PCI SSD , thinner design and retina display which runs iOS 8.

to strip down the iMac to its bone is to truly explore its essence...and stuff. :D

I am more excited to see what the next version of OS X will look like. I have already begun Mavericks with what I believe is a sleeker look.

Well... check out the Mavericks wave background image in OS X. It is 5120 x 2880. That should give a big clue about where the next iMac is heading. I don't believe we will see a redesign of the current shape, apart from minor tweaks.

I am hoping for retina iMacs!

Selfishly, I hope im around 3 years since I just got a late 2013 iMac ;).

I'm wondering if their "cheaper" iMacs will do something like what the iPhone 5c did and move back to polycarbonate models since they're cheaper to make.

Otherwise, I'm thinking most of the changes will be internal changes. Possibly incrementally updated,

The wallpapers for Lion and Mountain Lion was just as big too - yet there was no retina iMac. I think you're reading into circumstances too much.

I'm not dismissing the fact that there might be a retina iMac as the next redesign - I actually think it too - but basing it on the size of a wallpaper is just nonsense.

I recall that the wall papers in Lion and ML were 3840x2400. Anyway, it does not matter as I was just stirring this thread. I don't think we will see 4K iMacs in 2014. The panels are simply too expensive at this point in time, never mind the GPU requirements.

I think the redesigned iMacs will have the bottom black bezel part removed so the display sits on the aluminium, as at least i think it looks a bit weird. And the wallpapers in Lion and Mountain Lion was 3200x2000.

Are your referring to the black boarder which as of now extends entirley around the display making it appear evenly outlined?

Yes, i mean that, it could look better if they removed the bottom black boarder or made it smaller, then they could also add a few more pixels too.

Your opinion is what free thinking is for. I put a piece of aluminum paper the same color as the bottom of my iMac over the part you speak of. MY take is it looks not so acceptable. Look at most screens...... PC or Mac and all of them seem to have the black bourders surrounding all sides. I think it puts the actual viewing part in your face and defines the needed viewing area very clear.

Some new designer from the schools of stupids, suggested doing halo lighting a few months back like the old time TV screens came out with. It is always something to change into a new look, sometimes at the cost of the viewers sanity ...MS and the touch screen disaster. Which brought back a new iMac to my network. Don't need my arms sticking out smearing up the screen and still needing key strokes for some functions.

Try covering up the bottom of your screen and see how the viewing space looks.

i must agree with that, it would look horrible without it. But Apple could make the bezel smaller, allowing for a bigger screen in the same body. And that halo lightning idea just sounds weird, lol.

...

Lower prices would boost more sales than visual gimmicks.

...

The ol' "pricing is the only thing holding Apple back" theory... LOL, ok.

I think it will fuse with the Mini in a coffee-mug design, and that the screen will become a stand-alone 4K screen, either 30 or 50 inch or so. iMac as a line will die. The Mini will die. It will be just "Mac" and "Mac Pro". The time of highly difficult to manufacture in China designs will end soon. Apple will turn to more simple extrusion like designs capable of being built with US wages.

Thunderbolt display(s) + coffee-mug CPU connected via Thunderbolt is exactly what I would like to see.

By coffee-mug CPU, I presume you mean a mini new Mac Pro?

At this point, I would love to see that. I figure one hdmi port, one ethernet, 2 thunderbolt and 4 USB 3 ports would be appropriate for it. And of course it would probably be SSD only.

I figure something like this including the display might cost about $500 more than a similarly configured iMac. And it would be so worth it.

from lates Leak/Rumours:

"Apple plans to introduce cheaper entry-level iMacs..." Ming-Chi Kuo

Means: current year models at slightly lower pricing, same **** we wait for the iPhone 5c but....

Dell/Asus annouced will introduce soon a cheaper 4K2K monitor (at moreless the same pricing than past year 27" WQXGA they offered and curiously based on the same panel than Apple's thunderbolt display...)

So...

Considering in mid-term no LCD panel fab has plans to build nothing with bigger resolution than 4K2K, the new iMac 27 top resolution should be 4K2K, and the iMac 21 will handle the WQXGA :D resolution now in current iMac 27 (2560x1600).

Simple.

When? you still ask? --> at WWDC14 when else? :p:apple::cool:

P.D. dont get impressed if the new Retina iMac are finished in Black (mac pro black specifically)...

I'd expect a smaller (~21.5") TB Cinema Display as a lower cost option as well as for those with space limitations.

In the big picture though it's hard to imagine that Apple would actually stop offering an all-in-one iMac.

It is difficult to imagine, but who knows what Apple might do.

Some Apple fans seem to believe you get what you pay for. Big bucks, gets you something lots better than a dull looking PC. I'm liking Mac more all the time, and don't mind paying a little more.

Apple better have some good plans in for the iMac line next year: I'm holding out one more year before I get one!

Next Imac will be both desktop and tablet...the screen will be super thin and lite, and be able to detach from base to become a giant tablet.
