Some Apple fans seem to believe you get what you pay for. Big bucks, gets you something lots better than a dull looking PC. I'm liking Mac more all the time, and don't mind paying a little more.

Absolutely.

My wife had a Dell laptop that lasted her 5 or more years, so she bought a new $800 Dell laptop to replace it... what a chintzy POS that turned out to be, I'll never let her make that mistake again. It wasn't three months before it starting falling apart, yeah Dell sent Creepy-Smelly-Guy out to replace parts, but the replacement parts also failed just as the warranty expired.

I bought a new 13" MBA (Late 2010 model) soon after that and it still looks and runs as good as it did the day I bought it. My "Late 2009" 24" iMac is still going strong as well.

Well keep you fingers crossed, all computers are just a crap shoot, some last and last, others are a disappointment right from the start.

Right, it's the luck of the draw.

Most will last and be non-problematic for a very long time, but a few will just have nightmarish issues irrespective of the brand.

Warranty purchase has not been that profitable for me either. Not necessarily only on computers, but everything sold. For some reason the demons of damage when I buy a warranty, wait until the warranties run out, then hit me. Or if the warranty is in effect it has some small writing in the contract that always excludes my situation.

I don't want to sound like a bitching person all the time, I am glad I got a chance to come here to the planet for a while during a time where technology is developing in leaps and bounds. My only concern is it makes us a bit lazy just pushing a button for our needs.

Fortunately there will be no more finger-crossing since we're never getting another Dell.

I have a Dell Studio XPS 8100 set up for dual monitors. It is 3 years old and gives me no trouble at all. I am in the process of enjoying my new iMac too. I am somewhat stuck with the PC situation for two reasons, Wife can do compeer work at home some times, but her company only uses PC's. Also because of some XARA web development software, I use that is not usable on a Mac. And from what I have read about putting Windows on a Mac, I don't want to do that, it would be degrading to mix such a unique system with the likes of Bill Gates and his disastrous Win 8 OS.

Just my jaded views, others have different views, and that is fine. If we were all just the same, it would be a dull world for sure.

I'm hoping for some sort of retina/4K screen. With Dell releasing a sub 1000 dollar 4k 28 inch screen in the new year, we can't be that far away from 4k iMacs (assuming a late 2014 release).

I'm starting to see the terms 4K and retina display tossed around as though they mean the same thing. I have to remind you here that they are different. 4K/ UHD is a fixed resolution of 3840 x 2160 in a display. Retina display refers to varying pixel densities that can be applied to different display sizes so that pixels can't be resolved from the intended viewing distance.

Technically. ;)

I've built all my gaming desktop PC's since the Pentium 200MMX days, but I do still recommend Dell desktops to friends and family as long as they aren't serious gamers and/or don't suffer from bouts of upgrade-itis. My sister has a Dell mid-tower with Win8 on it and for ~$400 it seems to be a solid value. It replaced another Dell mid-tower with WinXP that lasted her quite a few years.
