Taking the picture in the elevator certainly indicates that this wasn't done officially. The poor lighting definitely makes it more difficult. It still looks very much like one of the new cinema displays, just hard to tell what else is in the box. They must be getting ready to ship them to Paris.

If this is the real thing then I have a few questions:

1. Where is the keyboard, mouse, powercord, software CDs, etc...
2. Where is the protective white anti-static bag that all Mac come in.
3. I don't see how Apple could make a G5 work in that enclosure and keep it cool. If they can make it work in that enclosure, then its possible to make it work in the current enclosure.
4. Where are all the ports, Optical drive?

I don't think its real myself. Steve took a lot of pride in the arm thats on the current iMac, and I don't think he'll just let it go.

Someone is full of ****!!!!!

Could someone out there please explain to me how this is not one of the new cinema displays? I saw a few at the Apple Store the other day and they looked exactly like this, logo, screen, bevel, everything.

What is different?

Analysis: They look pretty real, due mostly to the lack of detail. An enterprising Photoshopper would have surely done something far more elaborate.

That is a never good reason to justify the veracity of a pic.

am i right in saying ibooks old imacs emacs come in white boxes an powerbooks and g5's come in black boxes??? if so imac in black box???? fake pics if you ask me

On cinema displays the logo is below the screen, the display is thinner, and the sides are white.

Another iMac Picture found

I found one more pic of the new iMac on the guy's .mac web page. I don't know why this one isn't floating around yet. I think it is real, and it does show the guys hand in the pic so you can see how large the thing is. To big for just a monitor and the back of the monitor seems to mean taht is where the rest of the computer is. Woo hoo!

i'm pretty sure this is a hoax. first of all, Apple ships their products wrapped in brown post packages (I know because I worked the summer at a reseller). So, if this guy would have opened the box, he would actually first have had to open the brown box, then this one. There's loads of tape to open there.. so he would have gotten caught for sure, and no one's stupid enough to take that risk.

second of all, as some think, this isn't a cinema display. They have the apple logo on the bottom of the screen, and they're thinner. So my guess is someone has been photoshopping a little bit.

He claims that several were in simple boxes like this and he did not have to unwrap anything.

Thats because whoever faked this colored on the side gray (badly)
thats why the side looks so fuzzy, there is no defining lines on the
side where it meets the face...

I was just going to say that! =) If it's not the craziest trick of light... just look at the top corner (where the white left side on a Cinema display would meet the aluminum on top). There's, well, NO corner. This same side also has a completely different hue and texture than the rest of the casing. It's totally friggin Photoshopped.

Heh, I still have a 20" Cinema display in a box at work! If the new iMac doesn't show up Monday it'll be a sinch to just duplicate these photos! :D

So the guys got the box open and is taking pictures.

Elevator gets to the destination floor.

Door opens......

Could your imagine the reaction if an Apple rep. was standing there.

PS - Get Well Soon Steve

Everyone, say "Welcome" to the new iMac, or possibly a mountable computer that will not be called the iMac. I think it will be the former.
To all of you that say "this is a hoax", you're going to eat those words in about 3 days.

I, for one, think it is awesome, and will definitely pick one up.

This picture seems really fake to me. Look closely at the area where he is holding it. Either his superhuman man-hands are crushing and stretching in the edge of the screen, or this picture has been photochopped!

I think it's possible, only because we have all heard about airport personnel opening other peoples stuff. :p
It's kinda growing on me, but I still question having to blindly insert a dvd on the side or top.
edit: although the education one without optical will be sweet.

Hoax.

Me neither. They don't seem to fit in the package and it's much too small.

My thoughts exactly.

Rather, they "fit" in the boxes, but it looks like the unit's sides would be directly against the outside of the box instead of being protected by the styrofoam.

And, just in case you all haven't clicked over to the AI forums yet, the EXIF data shows that these pictures were taken more than a minute apart (a LONG elevator ride, apparently, including time to unload the box, prop it up, take a few minutes fiddling with the camera, then load everything back up again). It also shows that they were edited in Photoshop 7 prior to being distributed (the full-res photos, not these smaller thumbnails). Other details: the camera was a Kodak DC4800 (not the smallest of digital cameras; I know this because it was my camera of choice until I got a Canon Rebel ... a guy loading top-secret stuff for a ride up an elevator would DEFINITELY be noticed with a DC4800 hanging around his neck or - heaven forbid - providing a massive bulge in his jacket pocket), and the photos were taken in a low-resolution setting (so they didn't need to be photoshopped down to a smaller res) ... and they still turned out far murkier and off-color than any pictures I ever got with my DC4800.

Also, the guy-who-knows-the-guy posted these then never returned. I doubt Apple Legal came in a fleet of black SUVs to pick him up; his dissapearance is ... troubling.

All in all, too many points of suspicion here to give this any credence.

I suspect that we've got a PowerBook box and foam inserts with some anonymous LCD panel with a clunky backside propped up because it almost looked like it might fit.

it justl ooks like a cinema display to me

No, not a cinema display. Doesn't look like one at all. This is some other manufacturer's device with a (paper?) Apple logo glued on one edge of the bezel.

Who was it who posted that they would eat their socks if (insert rumor here) came true about two months ago? I think it had to do with g5's being released at wwdc after g5 being released a week or two before?

Rumors are fun.

I was wondering when the pre-Expo product "leaks" would begin. Ta daaa! :D

i don't know if it's real, but it is almost exactly what i envisioned: a wall-mountable all-in-one display with wirelessly connected mouse, keyboard, and speakers.
All I can say is, that while the photos do seem fishy for all the reasons mentioned (and what's with that cheap-looking metal prop that seems to be all that would hold this thing up?!?) such an all-in-one display with wireless mouse and keyboard would make a pretty cool new iMac.

uGGHH! It looks like one of those PROPS displays (holow plastic display computers) they put on office furniture at IKEA!

Doesn't appear to be an iMac. Maybe a new digital device or a Apple plasma TV.

wow.. that makes me think....

the HP iPod (what a disappointment) is just an Apple iPod with an HP logo on the back and is sold through HP's site and retail channels. Well, we also found out from HP that they are releasing new HP TVs.

Now that we see the HP iPod is just "re-branded", could this actually be a new product from Apple, that is just a re-branded HP digital TV? To me, these pictures look like a flat screen TV and not an all-in-one computer.

Just a thought...

I'm not sure if this is really the iMac G5 or not, BUT ...

For those who are saying the packaging isn't right, remember this might not be the "official" packaging. Even if it is the final packing, these are probably the display units, so they were probably opened and tested in Cupertino, then boxed back up for shipping to the convention--therefore they probably wouldn't be shrinkwrapped.
