Looks like a shadow to me. :D

haha it really does. there was no way for me to make it look like a cd drive or anything else.. I bet the author of this photo is having a good time right now.

Don't know if it's real or not, but if it is, it's not my taste... if anyone cares.

I was hoping for something a bit thinner, but I didn't like the 3G ipod or G5 when I saw pics, so what do I know. I still don't like the 4G ipod even after seeing it a dozen times, so maybe Apple's fallen down on the job.

I really hope it's just a flat screen TV that they're using for showing video or something on the floor. I really don't think it's "Apple" quality... although I'm sure I could be convinced otherwise on Tuesday.

Blimey! Quasimodo and Esmerelda...........

Yes, my thoughts exactly (see above post) grey click wheel just doesn't go with the ipod. Why not white? who knows, but I won't buy it. Might be a degin meltdown since steve's been recouping :p

I think these pictures could be real, though. Jonathan Ive got fired and the same guy that put the gray ClickWheel on the iPod designed this iMac.

Ok, Sorry to burst everyones fun bubble, (but the thing is ugly anyway, whatever it is), but here is an enlargement (That I did not doctor) of the so called "imac". As anyone can see, the Apple symbol that is applied on the side of the box is COMPLETLEY an add-on. You can see this by the difference in the pixels surrounding the apple and how

No, it is not - you are absolutely wrong.
What you are pointing to is JPEG-compression artefacts made even worse by cropping and recompressing an alread bad photo.

I find it hard to believe that the base is a separate piece that would require assembly after taking it out of the box. (Don't the new Cinema Displays come as one piece with the base alredy assembled?)

My guess: they put a random LCD in an Apple box, possibly a PowerBook box, and photoshopped the apple local on the LCD.

Its a silly prank

Wot a load of old tosh...

We will all see the new iMac G5 on Tuesday, maybe a leak on Monday night when the machines will be getting ready for the unveiling

Personally I want a G5 iMac, I just hope they look the dogs thingies, the current model looks so nice now and its a few years old! :)

I love it when someone knows what they are talking about. You are exactly right, that is no proof what so ever there is sticker on there.

Just Ideas

These are simply just thoughts,

If this were the new iMac... It would be completely interesting concept. There is a strong possibilty these are wall mountable or mountable on a support arm. The other thought is keyboard interface.. It would be interesting if Apple incorporated there wireless firewire technology into the keyboard to allow for a side loaded cd-drive built into a wireless keyboard.

The keyboard would need a usb recharging plug as the cd drive would suck up a lot of power if used wirelessly. Just a thought.

would be an interested idea though.

I'm glad you said it; I was going to mention this as well. It's totally compression artifacts, not seams where 1 photo was placed on top of the other. I've seen this many, many times on images saved for the web, because of size constraints.

Photoshop'd images?

I doubt much of that image would have been photoshop'd. If you look at the reflections in the screen they show the styrofoam of the box at different angles and also of the elevator's surrounding. That would be difficult to photoshop, so I would say the picture is ligit.

As for the box the item is resting in - why would you need to photoshop the box if you could easily use a Cinema Display box or a laptop box? If this is fake, then the person probably took a laptop box, with some LCD Display and set up the photos.

As for those people who think it looks ugly and for that reason don't believe it, you are definately not looking at the object in all it's potential glory, with speakers, keyboard, and mouse. I still would bet my friend's entire bank account this is the new iMac, or that the new iMac will be very similar to this. Also, with how small it looks, it is a bit of an idea how close apple might be at sticking a G5 processor into a PowerBook which i think is very exciting. Would love to have a G5 PowerBook to go with my new PowerMac G5. :)

I just HOPE those pics are fake, whats with the colour, uggghh? Would Apple really go from the stunning design of the current iMac to THAT? It has the dull grey plastic look of a PC.

One question;

The guy's in the elevator - he has a pile of boxes; each one emblazoned with a gorgeous photograph of the stunning new G5 iMac. Why even open it? Better to just take a photo of the box.

I had to re-pack a Powerbook a while ago and you can't do it in 2 minutes and make it look like new; at least two seals get broken.

Fake.

This is smaller than 3U

The only "problem" with doing this with an iMac is in the commonly greater cost for laptop miniaturization components, but that's not really as big of a problem as you might think: they already buy this stuff for their laptops, so having the iMac use it too gives them increased economy of scale - - for every dollar it increases the cost of the iMac, it probably saves a dollar off the cost of their laptops.

That would assume that one of these are true...

1.) The new iMac doesn't have a G5 ... or...
2.) The rumors about the dual core G4 Powerbooks AND 3U worth of space being required for Xserve are false ... or...
3.) The pictures are a fake.

I'm just not sure how they could get the space that's, to date, been necessary for a G5 in that thing, and I'm not sure how you generate enough interest in buying a G4 iMac without at least going dual proc. The thing's gotta have a G5 [imo]. That just makes sense at this point.

Now when's someone going to figure out how to hack my flatscreen iMac's monitor so that I can use it with a new Powermac? ;)

Yes, it will have a G5 -- Apple has publicly confirmed this.

look at this one, the white box on the floor, near the blue box.

This is more believable IMO.

these pictures have even shown up on cnet (Link)
and still have not been removed.

also i took that paris pic and changed the brighness and stuff and zoomed in.

as you can see it has a 'neck' and also appears to have the apple logo.
(sorry bout the size. it just got to pixilated when it got bigger.... maybe someone better than me can make it look better?)

That photo would suggest that the only major structural changes to the iMac is moving the guts up top. It still has a base and the adjustable arm, but everything is on the top, and base is only to anchor it.

At least that is what it seems form that blurry picture of the box.

I think that we finally have our first peek at the new iMac. That white box in the pic above looks extremely legit. Looks like an eMac with the back smooshed in and put on a stand with what appears to be an adjustable arm like the current iMac. Not revolutionary, but doesn't look that bad. Hopefully we will get a better image soon.

not an imac

I think (though I thought the tiger screenshots were fake for dumb reasons, and thought the cube was fake).

This looks to me like someone took an aluminum picture frame and put some black matteboard in it. The extra mass on the back has been photoshopped. (if you look at http://homepage.mac.com/ihepworth/PhotoAlbum3.html, there is "selection fringing" right under his middle finger.).

Also the vagueness of the pictures. just enough to be intriguing without really revealing anything.

The most fake part is how shiny the "screen" looks, that'd be a lot of glare for an LCD.

But at least someone took the time to read the rumors before making their fake this time. If it does end up looking like a cinema display this seems like it could be a good mock up.

I believe the flat iMac is a hoax. If you count the number of dots on the non slip elevator floor, you will find that the display and box is about 20-23 dots long. I believe each dot is probably an inch in diameter. So I have come to the conclusion that this is a photoshop hoax of a 20 inch display in a powerbook box. It's fake, but I have been fooled before.

I think we have a winner... (speaking about the Paris photos above) Amaze me with the specs and maybe I can convince someone to buy me one.
