Not sure... Our Art dept does not seem like it's going to get any of these, ever. We have around a few iMacs 27" 5K though, but slowly but surely, they are being phased out for Windows Workstations that our in-house IT department can service anytime.

Sure, the Art guys prefer Macs... but these bois are expensive and un-serviceable by our IT staff. Funnily enough, we have no trashcan Mac Pro around.
Sadly, the talk of the town on any Mac Pro users group is that all the creative pros are switching to Windows. It's not just the hardware but the software and GPU support from Adobe and everyone jumping ship from Final Cut et al.

I sure do miss MicroCenter's deals, nothing like that here in Japan. Electronics cost an arm and leg so I keep checking Facebook and craigslist for anyone selling their iMac Pro. I'm either going all out on the new Mac mini or a heavily discounted iMac Pro.

Yeah, I've seen many IT departments over the year cut down their Mac support. At least there is always that one person with enough say who gets to keep one. When you work with windows issues all day, it's a sign of relief when that Mac user calls with just a question or simple software install.

Taking $1000 off the price seems like a high price to win a customer.

They're not going after any particular customer. They're going after customer awareness. There are probably a lot of people who've just realized for the first time that there's a MicroCenter within 30 minutes of their home. A few thousand dollars for marketing is nothing. If it works, it's way cheaper than just about anything else they could do to draw this much attention.

It’s a much more reasonable price for the system. It’s way out of my league, but it’s not out of line for what you get.

I asked a Micro Center district manager why they mark their Apple gear down so low when Apple doesn't give them a price break to do so. His response was that it is worth it to them to get people in their Micro Center Apple Store, that they mark it all down. Taking $1000 off the price seems like a high price to win a customer. Oh well, benefits the consumer :)

I'm wondering if they have trouble moving Macs. I shop the Cincinnati Store. The Mac Area keeps getting smaller and smaller. Has anyone else noticed this at the Microcenters near them? I even shrunk during this sale. I don't know if they are hurting because of Best Buy's Apple area or just the downward trend of retail shopping. I don't think that it the local Apple store since that has been around for years.

Best Buy price matched Microcenter for me today, and I was able to get 12 months 0% interest on my Best Buy card.

Meanwhile I’m doing freelance at blazing speeds earning bucks on my AMD Threadripper with its 32-threads and a Cinebench score of 3200 all for under $3700. Actually that’s the price per for the three systems I built for friends. Mine was $1700 as I swapped in my now pricey parts to the new machine. (Gpu, m.2, ram)

I love my 27” iMac and I use it for all my casual computing needs. But for “Pro” work it’s absurd to spend on Mac.

What’s sad and interesting are the skyrocketing prices in the PC builder market. M.2, ram, and GPU prices have gone insane. Actually bringing the costs closer to Macs. Apple has yet to pass these costs on to their users. So for the first time possibly ever, Apple is allowing for some cuts in to their profits.

Threadripper Specs
1950x (16c/32t)
64GB DDR4-@3000
1TB M.2 (nvMe)
GTX1080Ti
Windows 10 Pro

For those people, like me, who bought it for $4300 from them, Micro Center has "price protection" and will refund the $300 if still in the 15 day return window. Just go the store where you bought it with the original receipt and they will issue a refund for the difference. I liked it at $4300, like it even better at $4000.
I did exactly that. Bought one last week for $4299, then went in today and they credited $300 back to my card. I’m just curious why Apple allows Microcenter to discount it so deeply? Now no one is ever gonna want to pay $4999, knowing that they could have got for $3999.

Reduce the price all you want, I'm not buying it.

I'm going to get the 3.0GHz 21.5" iMac. I refuse to buy any computer that doesn't still have a 5400 rpm hard drive in 2018.

It's absurd that 5400rpm drives even exist any more. I just got a SSD installed in my dad's 2008 iMac.

don't know how much it would cost to get your advertisement to all apple related portals and to some generic ones like gizmodo / engadget in $$. instantly. coordinated.
it seems that selling 11 below the MSRP (stock shows 10+) and say losing $500 on each (i don't expect a retailer to get less than 10% discount from the MSRP) justifies the worldwide coverage. and since it is not an "ad", most people don't react as they normally do with ads.

the idea that Apple is not participating in this sale is just ignoring reality. they are either discounting to Microcenter or offering something of equivalent in return.

Just picked one up at the Dallas store today. Don't know how long they will last because I saw a guy carting one out as I walked in as well as someone else asking about it in the Apple area. Micro Center customer service was very good though. Knowledgeable sales person helped me...which I sometimes can't say when I go to an actual Apple store. Couldn't resist that deal even though it's still a crazy expensive machine. With the frequency in which Apple updates its machines now, I figure this machine will last me 10 years. I'll surely be able to make back my money doing some casual freelance work in that time.

I tried a price match online, but Best Buy help said I should go to a store and show them the deal since it is in store only. *sigh*
