Not a benching program, but Handbrake reliably pushes temperatures to the max on my i7.
Handbrake is an excellent benchmarking program as it is processor intensive and can load up a lot of threads (though it does have an upper limit...my 32 thread system is no faster at encoding than my 24 thread system)

?
I've been using my 2017's iMac bluetooth keyboard on my 2007 iMac & haven't had any lag. I may be concerned, but I do have a backup if need be. My 8c makes it in today!

I've had several issues with BT in my environment, but it just may be too many BT devices in a small space. Not sure if it could also be related to too strong 2.4GHz WiFi APs near me. The neighbor is blasting on his 2.4 (I have my 2.4s powered down low)

I’ll see how it works tonight.

Also any chance to run istat or Intel Power Gadget to see what the idle and under load temp is for the CPU?

Thanks for the benchmarks, very interesting.

I'm considering ordering a 8 core/32gb/Vega64 myself. Could you benchmarks some modern games that rely more on CPU clock speed (eg. Battlefield 1, Grand Theft Auto 5 - Bootcamp). The 3.2ghz Xeon has a whole 1gb of turbo boost, and I wonder how effective that is for sustained load in games - say compared to the higher base clocked 8700K, or 7700K in the 2017 iMac. CPU clock speed can have a big impact on the framerate. Would be very interesting to see how the iMac Pro fares here.

For those that want to fiddle around with the Vega GPU:
Undervolting the Vega GPU with MSI Afterburner (Bootcamp) could give more performance and/or lower temps. Process Lasso can make specific programs (ie. games) avoid hyperthreading (Hyper-threaded core avoidance), which could also help the CPU temp (8 cores wo/HT is more than enough for gaming).

Hi there,

Thanks for all the really interesting information provided on the iMac Pro so far. As per the request from Mac32, I'd also be interested in learning a little bit about the system's gaming performance, either in iOS or running Windows 10 in Bootcamp.

I'm looking to upgrade from a heavily spec'd iMac Late 2010, but if the iMac Pro can make good gaming performance it would be great to be able to kill two birds with one stone and have one system that can handle productivity and gaming, rather than having a Mac and dedicate gaming PC.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

I finally have mine up and running, I'm working on installing bootcamp and all my benchmarking tools. I have the temp monitor up and will have intel power gadget up shortly. It will take a while for my photos to get online, but I'll post what I can tonight.

I'm impressed how quiet it is compared to the 2017 iMac. I can't even hear it start...total since.

I have an 8-core, 32GB, 16GB Vega 64.

I was able to install BootCamp with Windows 10 with no problem.

I installed Overwatch though and got really terrible performance. Even when I turned down graphics settings to low I was still only getting ~20FPS. So this leads me to believe that BootCamp isn't coming with Vega drivers for Windows -- either that or I did some install mistake.

I got about double FPS in WoW under OS X as compared to a maxed-out 2016 iMac -- which was good to see.

Did you verify bootcamp drivers were installed & did you update the drivers to the AMD version drivers after that?
[doublepost=1514347322][/doublepost]Apparently this has Dolby atmos built in.

Can you please take a screenshot of settings in WoW? And how many FPS? Thanks for the information!

Power Gadget graphs are in post #15.
Thanks... somehow missed that!
Very cool that 8 fully loaded cores = 80degC :)
Any idea what the fan speed measurements listed might mean? 15,164?

Regardless - 8 fully loaded cores at 80degC is pretty good for what I would use this for.

I was using the standard settings slider set to 9/10 in Windowed 2560x1440 mode. FPS varies a lot depending on what you're looking at. When stressing it at 9/10 I could get FPS down to 45ish but usually stayed around 60.

Thank you!

Sounds very similar to the top spec iMac 2017 then. Slider at 8 and getting 60 FPS most places.

I’m planning on buying the same configuration. Could you test how well the CPU turbo boosts during gaming? Since the turbo boost is a whole 1ghz, it could play an important part in gaming performance.

Do you have Battlefield 1, Mass Effect Andromeda or one of the other newer games with HDR support (Windows 10/Bootcamp)? Could you test if that function works on the iMac Pro, and/or HDR videos (like Netflix etc.)? That would be greatly appreciated. Enjoy your iMac Pro! :)

I stress tested the CPU & it hung out at 3.9 GHz the entire time. The fans kicked on at about 93C & I could barely hear them...& they were enough to keep the temps from going higher. So I thought, why not run a graphics test as well...No higher & the card actually didn't really degrade performance that bad: should be 125 on Cinebench, but were down to 85 due to CPU usage.

I have not seen the 8 core run at 4.2 yet, but it stays at 3.9 during use & only slows when not in use. I would love to see how the 10 core differs, but with this number, a 3.9 vs even a 4.5 at single core for gaming is not that much. The 10 core will cause more heat, but I don't know the performance impact.

If it makes you feel better BT is a dogs brekkie on the 2013 Mac Pro - I gave up and went wired

This thread is killing me! I want one bad, but don't know what I will do with the mass of cables exiting the trash can (4 TB2, 3 USB, 1 GB, 1 HDMI).

Has anyone tested the WiFi performance? Is it adequate for serving AppleTv's and such? I would like to dedicate the 10GBe to my QNAP TVS-1284T NAS. I could always use the GB in my OWC Dock for the rest of the LAN. Also have an Akito TB2 10GBe adapter.

I used Handbrake to rip some DVDs. I copied the files to local SSD, then ran this. I do NOT have any BlueRay or other HD content, these are all just old regular DVD movies.

With Handbrake running on my 2012 iMac i7, all CPUs used, barely any fan speed increase.
With the iMac Pro, zero fan speed noticed as well. The iMac Pro ripped at 2.5x the speed of the 2012 iMac. No surprises here.

i love that Apple finally (after Apple upgrade the speakers for the ipads, macbooks and iphones) now they upgrade the speakers from imacs too

Hey thanks for sharing the graphics info! If anyone has the Pro Vega 56 can you share that as well?

Can you test if the VBIOS can be saved with GPU-Z under Windows?

Have you tried installing the Pro Vega drivers for Windows 10 from AMD? The 6860 device ID is present in the Linux driver, so it should be present in the Windows driver as well.
