That’s it, we need a proper PC maker to step back into the game, push prices, and give the Mac some serious competition. Apple will not innovate **** until that happens. Why would they?

Literally billions in the warchest, and apple has given us these ground breaking innovations to the iMac: two fans, two new holes in the iMac case, and some black paint.

Is this a joke?

Where is the 5K Cinema Display? Why don’t they put the thermals from the iMac Pro into the regular iMac and offer proper desktop graphics? Where is the modular Powermac (sorry, “Mac Pro”)? What happened to external GPUs (pretty much the one thing Thunderbolt can do that legacy ports can’t)?

Someone at apple needs to be fired.

They offer the best professional graphics amd supply, they offer 128gb EEC ram and Intel Xeon chips with 8-18 cores four Tb 3 ports and a 10 bit 5k p3 gamut screen. I think you may need to go back to school.

To further Samuel San's argument:

The new Apple displays and modular Mac Pros are coming next year. Apple have already apologised to users for this delay and admitted that they have gone wrong with the trash can. They're going to take back the throne and be our favourites once again once that modular Mac Pro is out alongside the new screen.

Reports show that the fans and new thermal architecture are doing a great job too. The iMac Pro has Desktop graphics as well.

External GPUs are a thing, but none have performed well as far as I've seen.

None of the things you listed are apple innovations. Not a single one.

And what force from heaven is keeping them from using the old case?

So you want Apple to innovate and come up with something new and great, you discard the specs upgrade as not being Apple's innovation, yet you want them to bring back the old Mac Pro with updated internals... Some people will never be happy.

Apple hasn't innovated anything in the mac space in the last 5 years.

The iMac Pro isn't for everyone, and I wish Apple had put a little more upgradability into the design (at least a RAM access door, even the normal 27" has that). But overall it's a step in the right direction, and Apple did do a lot of things right (price to performance, decent cooling system, compact all-in-one form factor with 5K display).

After all, professionals just want something that can be justified as a business expense to get work done. And from what I've seen in the reviews, the iMac Pro qualifies.

That being said, I continue to hold out hope for a new modular Mac Pro in 2018. And if Apple decides to consider its customers worthy of a new low-cost quad-core Mac mini, that'd be great, too.

We need real competition.

So what if the RAM is not upgradable and I see no benefit other than for those who just want to save cost and buy third party.

How long do you expent a computer to last - 20 years. Just get as much RAM as you can afford and live with it. I have always maxed the RAM on previous iMac’s and never wished 8 had more. Then I just upgrade the machine. Plus it’s not like the base 32GB is a small amount.

The 10 core iMac Pro with 64GB RAM looks to be a machine that will last at least for the next 4-5 years.

understatement of the year. In fact it's for hardly anybody, at least at that price. Basically if your work doesn't benefit greatly from multi core, then it's not for you, as compared to what we already have.

gonna need 18 core, 128gb mem at a min...

Sorry but simply stuffing more powerful components into a chassis a few years old in design with a screen you already sell is not innovation, the Surface Studio was innovation with a fresh new idea to a target market.

I never said it was, I'm just saying that OP is asking for innovation but at the same time he wants an older product to be brought back with new internals, which is quite the opposite of innovation.

The Surface Studio is a nice product but not really comparable to the iMac Pro.

The iMac Pro is a workstation, if you want to innovate with it you better bring great useful features to the table, which are hard to come up with on something as old as a desktop computer. It's not a product where you want to test fun but slightly gimmicky features like the touchbar.

iMac Pro is not a product to innovate. iMac Pro is a product to satisfy some (not necessarily all) of those who need the horsepower. That's all it does. Look at what happened last time when Apple tried to be innovative (trash can)? For pros, Apple doesn't need to be innovative. Just make a machine that has the right processing power.

What is the complaint here exactly?

iMac Pro looks insanely good, as far as I can tell. And it's similarly priced to an equivalent PC.

At the slow rate technology is progressing, even the entry-level model could likely last you 15 years, assuming the screen held up and didn't become too dim.

In my opinion there is only one user base that is really suffering now that Apple has finally started looking at the Pro market again and that is gamers. If you really want the high end Nvidia GPUs with overclocked low core count CPU performance go build a hackintosh. Apple is never going to support what you want.

Even the new “modular” Mac Pro, I will be suprised if it takes off the shelf PC GPUs. Apple is in AMD GPUs for the long haul, and currently offers the top of the line professional and consumer AMD GPUs in current Apple products.

But they have. Just check out excellent butterfly keyboards on MBP. Can't innovate my a** :D

The Mac haters think think they know more than Apple Engineers and Management. Which one is worth 886 billion this morning?

Justin Bieber is the best singer in the world. And his music is top of the line. Just look at how much he is worth ;)

Well... given that the vast bulk of Apple’s financial success is due to iPhone and surrounding ecosystem, an argument could be made that it’s the Mac haters inside Apple (looking at you, Tim Cook, with my best Curb Your Enthusiasm stare) who are responsible for its march towards trillion dollar market cap.

I disagree, of course — without the Mac Apple is nothing — but you can’t argue with sheer sales numbers and profit margins of its primary product.

If, historically, Apple had instead never shifted focus and did actually made the best Mac technologically possible today (which I think we’d all agree they do not), the best Apple could have hoped for would have been to be in the same ballpark as Dell.

I disagree I think Apple do make the best mac technology today, firstly they are the only people to make it, secondly they make the product they want and on the whole they do it brilliantly. Just because it’s not what you want doesn’t mean it’s not the best they can make.

And what force from heaven is keeping them from using the old case?

What you mean putting workstation performance in a slim compact all in one, no that’s not innovation at all, you really have a few issues with reality don’t you.

Nor was the first 5k all in one years before anyone else innovation, or a touchbar that changes function depending on what software you are using. Nor was that MacBook Air an impossibly thin and light computer on release. Or the iPhone and iPad that changed the phone and tablet market out of all recognition, or the App Store much copied and never matched, or the iPod a music device with a brilliantly simple interface and UI, that changed apples fortunes and changed the face of music. That’s not mention the things they were late to the party with because the6 insisted that they work before they used them like fingerprint sensors.

Apple innovate constantly just because you aren’t interested in what they are doing doesn’t make it any less innovative or brilliant, it just makes you more boorish and ridiculous that you can’t see it even if it isn’t relevant to you.
