Hi all, I've tried unplugging, restarting, changing settings on phone, and resetting warnings. I had it at one point that about 1/2 my pics showed in image capture, but when I tried to download, it downloaded a couple and gave error messages on the rest.

I could download from icloud site, but I want the time date stamp from the photos (have 1200+ to download). Lose the time date stamp when I tried emailing and airdropping. I'm at a loss what else to try.

Thank you, M

Tried everything here, absolutely infuriating issue. I was able to get IC to recognize the photos but it was taking hours to transfer very little & I was getting errors. Something to check:

My Image Capture didn't have the "Keep Originals" checkbox that vjeantet posted about. HOWEVER it's also a setting in my phone. Go to Settings > Photos > scroll down to where it says "Transfer to Mac or PC" and switch it to Keep Originals.

At the very least, this seemed to clear up all issues for me. Good luck!

Exactly same issue here - image capture and photos could both see the iphone, but not any photos on it. I store my entire photo library on my desktop with icloud switched off, but use icloud on my phone so that photos are immediately backed up. After all the resetting etc. suggested above, both photos and image capture could see just 1 out of 450 photos! Same on 2 macs with 2 different OS.

My temporary solution if useful to others with 2 machines sat around: my laptop doesn't have my entire photo library so I (0) backed up my iphone to my desktop! (1) switched on icloud photos on my laptop and downloaded the photos, (2) exported them as originals to a folder on my desktop, (3) archived them into a single tar file and sent via airdrop to my desktop, (4) imported into photos on my desktop (could select to not import duplicates), (5) went back to my laptop and deleted all the photos (they are still in recently deleted folder for 30 days in case of problems!), (6) switched off icloud photos on my phone, choosing "delete photos" when the message popped up - it said they would all stay in icloud which didn't sound promising, (7) switched icloud photos back on and hey presto only that 1 photo that Image Capture could see reappeared back on my phone. The icloud storage indicates that they are no longer on icloud and phone storage shows they are no longer on my phone. Success!

What a mess. Like others here I suspect this is Apple's way of forcing us to pay for Tbs of icloud storage that we don't want or need. I'm seriously considering a whole scale move back to linux where I have some control.

Thank you! I've got that checked for future, but to get my photos off I finally deleted things off my phone and kept downloading whatever pics would show, until I got them all off. I've got keep originals checked for the future and don't plan to get that far behind again. Super annoying issue. I was on help call with apple for two hours only to find that they didn't have any other way of downloading pics while keeping time date stamp.

I've tried everything here with no luck. In fact I stopped using my iPhone for a budget android for this reason. But I decided to give it a go again and have spent hours for a couple of days on this. So frustrating. I have a 256 GB iPhone 7 and 13" late 2013 rMBP. But I've tried it with other Macs that have the same issue.
