** FIRST POST EVER **

I am delighted!! My Wife is making me fork out £2000 for this, i made her wait and she has been complaining non-stop, I assured her the new MacBook was around the corner!! I can now relax in peace :)

Yeah, that's definitely the rMB butterfly keyboard.

*sigh*
I tried the rMB keyboard and could not stand the lack of depth. Between this and not including at least 1 regular USB port, I'm quite satisfied with my decision not to go with mac for this upgrade. For those that could care less, enjoy! I'm sure it will work like a champ and it is loooong overdue.

And the MacBook Pro branding on the screen returns.

So glad to see this! I always felt they looked like knock-offs without it.

Yet I'm switching to an iMac this time... I'm sure the Wireless Magic Keyboard will see an update soon.

Who are you trying to convince by blogging this? Us or yourself? Sounds like you're trying to mentally rationalize away how outdated you feel now.
Not trying to convince anyone of anything, just speaking my mind.

If you have a problem with that, I suggest you disconnect from the Internet and never reconnect again.

Seriously. I'm on vim hours every day. I could map caps lock to ESC, but I already use that as my CTRL key, so that's not a good option.

This situation is pretty depressing. I could adapt to living without the function keys — despite the macros I've assigned to several of them — but the ESC key might be the last straw. After ten years of OS X, I may have to switch back to linux. Time to go browse the ugly laptops for sale at System76, I guess. :(

What makes you think the Esc key is even going away? So. Much. Handwringing.

I like that they added speaker grill to the side (hopefully functional and it isn't just for aesthetics) and hopefully Apple decided to finally trim the notebook bezels at least a little (would add at least an inch to every portable display).

Magic Toolbar is awful. So now if I want to change volume/screen brightness it will probably be easier just to use System Preferences instead of trying to switch to the right program (Finder?) to bring to front so that the "magic toolbar" displays desired controls. Hopefully it doesn't get burn-in too fast either. Remember, people don't swap computers every year. Well, at least they didn't make the entire keyboard awful... oh wait.

It's a visual toolbar! They could make dancing women appear if they wanted to. It'll be fine. :)

Lol, I bet there's going to be an app for that.

While I am a bit skeptical of whether the magic toolbar will make me any more productive or just get in the way, I can see how it may be useful for certain cases like taking the menubar items and moving them to the toolbar -- like the current Time, the remaining Battery, iStatMenus :) etc.

I was really hoping the keyboard would be split in two and placed on either side of the screen. Looks like a laptop still... same old **#* from Apple "can't innovate" Computers.

This whole "usb-c must get a dongle for every standard connector" is really not a thing I like. I was so thrilled when they finally included the hdmi and no need for an adapter.

If they are smart (and I am hoping that Apple is), they will be very careful about how they market this. They don't need a similar 'this laptop is great but...one port/this phone is great but...no headphone jack' narrative after the rMB and iPhone 7.

What they need to do is get ahead of this with some great dock peripherals that really highlight how wonderful usb-c/thunderbolt 3 is. Before the rMB came out there was speculation of putting ports in the power brick. Or just have a really nice, full featured first party docking solution that instantly transforms your laptop into a desktop workstation.

They also need to do what other PC manufacturer's do an include a dongle in the box for basic legacy ports (something similar to their usb-c to 3 port, USB-A, HDMI, etc. dongle that they made for the rMB). No one should HAVE to BUY a dongle the moment they buy their laptop for something as simple as plugging in the hard drive that has their time machine backup on it. Apple needs to anticipate this and stop being stingy.

I choose to remain hopeful but we'll see...

Yes, I also hate it for imaginary situations like the one you described.

Do you honestly think they made it that difficult to adjust volume?

Did you really have to open this up again? The subject is well covered in other threads.

The only real advantage to Kaby is graphics. Check out Intel's web site on the subject.
yeah I'm asking why most people are bitching about it... i understand there is barely any difference. i am wondering why apple fan boys need to complain so much

I love the new keyboard. It takes all of five minutes to get used too... If that.

Haters who hate on innovation.

Go get you one of these...

Hey, at least those keys have more travel.

I'll be surprised if you can't customize it. I bet you will be able to disable it altogether so it displays the function row exactly as it is now, except in the case of invoking Siri or Touch ID. Hopefully, you will also be able to customize it individually--i.e, app shortcuts, volume slider, media controls, etc.
