Absolutely. Tim Cook is impossible to work with.
U mad bro who gives a damn about other companies Apple is a business so whatever makes the most money and provides customers the best experience then do it by all means. I hope Imagination dies they shouldn't have relied on 1 company for over half of their revenue.

Here's the £ symbol for you to copy and paste, Tim. Please make sure you use "dollars" in your next article.

Imagination said it doubted that Apple could go it alone without violating Imagination' patents, intellectual property and confidential information.

Everyone note this is how a future non-practicing entity is born.

After Imagination goes out of business because Apple refuses to license the IP and does not negotiate in good faith, and Imagination assets (including IP) are folded into a new bankruptcy corporation for the purposes of paying the debts of Imagination, and these patents are asserted against Apple by that corporation ...
... I don't want to hear any whining about patent trolls always picking on Apple.

Would you say that if Imagination was an American company?

Don't lie now.

Yeah, Tim, whatever you say.

Apple stinks. They've done this over and over again with employees who worked on patents they used. 65million is nothing IMHO a legal battle over infringement is most likely going to cost apple much more than that if this company sees they've been infringed upon with apples new solution.

I love apple products but boy oh boy does the company tactics STINK! Sounds like a very cheap deal to license these patents and to hire their employees and take it in house seems underhanded and nasty.
Apple wanted to buy the company but as I see it, the BOD put a silly price on the company. Apple wasn't prepared to pay for that and what we are seeing now is the result. Apple has given notice as is probably required by the contract. The BOD may well have some explaining to do at the next AGM. If I were a shareholder I'd be wanting to ask some very awkward questions.

I really don't know all that much about chips and the like anymore, but from the snippets I've seen, one of the factors that negatively impacts Apple's ability to evolve the Mac line is being handcuffed to Intel's roadmap and inevitable delays. A quarter billion is chump change to Apple compared to the ability to launch products to their timeline...

It's an excuse Apple is making for being slow/late in the PC idnustry. Appropriate intel CPU's have been available for a long while now.

Examples:
iMac 21" is still shipping with a Broadwell CPU, despite Skylake CPu's being available now for over a year (The 27" imac's have Skylake at least). But still behind as Intel has Kaby Lake CPU's out in volume now.

The MacBook Air is also still on Broadwell. Skylake parts have been out for over a year, and Kaby Lake parts are already available for this class of machine for several months.

Mac Mini is still using a Haswell Dual Core Ultra Low voltage CPU from 2014. They could have easily used and fit anything from dual core, to quad core Broadwells, Skylake or even Kaby Lake at this point.

The Mac Pro is only available with an Ivy Bridge based E5 xeon. Nevermind the complete ignoring of the Mac Pro by Apple, there have been multiple new Xeon's released since the Ivy Bridge xeons

There was a little bit of issue back when the Skylake CPU came out. But that was already a year ago. Apple has nobody to blame but themselves for their lack of updates to their computer lineup. The only thing you can "blame" intel for is the fact we're not seeing multiple percentage point games per generation in CPU.

however, moving from a Haswell CPU to Skylake / Kaby Lake will offer huge benefits, especially in mobile. So sitting on broadwell and blaming Intel is just ludicrous and completely incorrect.

Yeah. When Apple puts silly prices on their phones, should we just steal it from Apple stores?..

My bet is someone will gobble it up, question really will be who does. Intel might be a match up as they are currently having to license their GPU stuff from Nvidia and AMD.

Apple is probably switching to MALI since they already pay for ARM license. Also, Timmy on a belt tightening after having overspent on the spaceship building and with phone market getting much tougher.

5 bill is a drop in a bucket for Apple

Yah but I agree it would make a lot of sense for them to Switch to Mali and their existing liscensing agreement probably allows more flexibility on gpu modifications then what power vr offered.

If there is a problem with node, like Intel has with 10 nm, already Coffelake is delayed, and CannonLake, also is delayed, again, the same problems would hit Apple.

Silicon design is not one factor to bare in mind. Its extremely complex process, that takes years.

Apple could end up losing a lot of money in lawsuits , they should've just bought the company to save time and money.
Yes maybe but the problem would be that it could encourage other firms that Apple have licensing agreements with to start trying to get Apple to buy them because they see it as a huge payday.
Also Imagination may not sell, I mean Apple not long ago apparently tried to buy Tesla but that went nowhere.
I also think that Imagination might try to jack up the price because they see it as having Apple over the barrel.
I don't think that Apple would create a GPU from the ground up or acquire a design from a third party that would infringe on Imagination's patents. Just seems like Imagination are sulking because their cash cow has decided to stop getting milked and now they have very little else to push their share price back up.

Lovely work Apple. Stand up for LGBT rights, AIDS awareness and bullied dolphins, then totally **** over a hard working, long-time partner, whose staff may well now end up out of work. I am increasingly finding myself at odds with the way this company under Tim Crook operates. But, hey, anything for the profits, right?

It does suck, but unfortunately that's business and quite frankly I don't think they care all that much. Apple isn't the first company in the world to hurt a supplier like this.

So companies should never switch vendors. Ever.

Why do you think Apple has a reputation as being a b*****d company to work with as a supplier or partner? If it didn't mean tons of money I doubt anyone would do it.

Have you heard about Imagination Technologies management lunacy? ;)

They are pinnacle in terms of ****** and idiotic management in the industry.

Only god knows what they could achieve if the management of IT would be sane, and not made mistakes over last years. All of the talent that Imagination had, is already at Apple. Imagination has nothing to offer to Apple. For those engineers, it was a step up of their game. Apple has much higher capabilities of silicon design, than Imagination. Actually, they are very similar to the best in the business. Possibly even best in the business.

I genuinely suggest people stop talking about things they do not know.
