Might as well take the Apple TV dimensions and port configs, add a USBC port or 2 if it fits, brand it the Mac nano/micro. Address the raspberry pi enthusiast/dev market. Get people to develop in Swift/Xcode with it.

Why would they redesign the Mini? I get that it's had the same design for so many years, but they have the Studio for the bigger more powerful version, and the mini is supposed to be just that, mini. With the Apple Silicon the biggest drawback of the mini - power - has been largely eliminated. It's full desktop class power now.

And the design is great. Simple, small, decent amount of ports.

The only potential redesign would be to go smaller. Make the mini minier.

... and would it kill them to stick the power button on the 'front'?
Whether or not a user instead let's their computer hibernate on a regular basis, or whether you have a power button on your keyboard, sometimes a manual 'gotta reboot' option would be nice.

The current Mac mini chassis just doesn't have enough ports for many users, given the age of that chassis design. An upgraded Mac mini chassis with more ports available would make the mini a lot more useful.

The M2 Pro Mac mini has 4 TB4 and 2 USB-A ports in the back, which match the Mac Studio. Yes, the Studio comes with two additional USB4 or TB4 ports (depending on SoC) at the front, but I would not consider the M2 Pro mini to be "port-starved".

Agreed. I feel like Apple Mac Pro Trash Can design was much better.

Can I ask why? Objectively, the Studio is the better design. It can run fully unconstrained with the fans barely more than idle. It has front facing ports, including an SD card reader. And it takes up less overall volume.

It appears thicker than before, is he proposing time travel to the past, things never get thicker. I like it, but it would be unprecedented.

With the Mac mini's current design dating back over a decade, one MacRumors forums user has imagined what a redesign could look like if Apple was to take hints from the Mac Studio.

That (what I bolded and underlined) just struck me as funny--like the Mac Studio is a competitor's product from which Apple. needs to "take hints" from, as if they hadn't come up with it themselves. Also, grammar nerd note: "was" should be "were" since it's in the subjunctive mood.

I have a special fondness for the Mac Mini, as the G4 Mac Mini was my first modern Mac (bought used off eBay back in 2005), and convinced me to transition fully over to Mac. The only other Apple computer we owned previously was an Apple IIGS!

The Mac Studio is basically a taller, less clean Mac Mini. The Mac Mini design is... 13 years old?!
And the Mini's design is clean and... nothing more. It's an update that simplified the even older rounded square. It's a kind of design that was already way too simple for a computer, so similar to accessories as a concept (Apple TV, Airport).
It's astonishing how they keep using that.

All I see is the Mac Studio going the way of the iMac Pro... a one hit wonder...

What this likely will mean is that the Mac Mini could get the "Max" variant of the chip and any dual/quad versions of the chip will be reserved for the Mac Pro.

Agree that the Mac Studio has a lazy exterior design.

But I miss the white Mac Mini, so take that for what it's worth :)

I think your glasses got a light rose tint on them YayArea.

To be fair, the M1 Ultra's thermal load is about one-seventh of the base Intel Xeon and dual AMD FirePro 300s in the 2013 Mac Pro so there would be no worries of backing oneself into a "thermal corner". ;)

Yeaaaaah no i don't wanna take that gamble again lmao

I really like my studio. Only downside is that there is NO expandibility. yet, maybe never. Some people don't like that much, I was not happy about it for a long time but I got over it. I thought seriously about a make up pc but when it was all said and done. same price and lots more electricity. The new mini doesn't have enough ports/memory.

1. The Mac Mini does not need thermal improvement
2. The Mac Studio is vastly more noisy: I specially purchased the mini to avoid that noisy design.
3. The design of the mini is minimalism at its exquisite best. It's a classic. No reason to mess it up, just for the sake of making a change,

The Mini isn't cheap tho, they even added a M2 Pro version.

Let's not forget the current Mini case design is old stuff, it was designed for an Intel mobo with user-upgradeable RAM and storage - the current Mini case is mostly empty with its chips all soldered to a single board and nothing else.
The Mac mini is extremely affordable and I plan to get the model with the m2 pro cheap since the much more expensive max studio is overkill for my needs

Sick of the fake leaks. Pros need REAL pro I/O. At least 20 TB6 ports.

Also the Mini needs to be reversible so it's easier to reach the ports.

AS Minis are mostly empty air. Apple needs to add more air so it's lighter and taller (looks more pro).
Ah yes, the rumored "Mac Studio Pro Max Ultra Extreme", if this one ever comes out, shut up and take all my money, Apple
