Mine worked great. It works better in Leopard than Tiger in my opinion. Of course I don't have as many emails as you. Why do you need 5000 emails. Sounds like you need to do some spring cleaning.

Hope it works out for you.

So right about it being mail.app, not gmail. My appollgizes gmail, and apple... Fix it!

Thunderbird /gmail/IMAP is mucho perfecto!

Question about thunderbird... In mail you can combine default mailboxes with imap mailboxes? In mail, you click on the IMAP mailbox and go to mailbox/use for/...

In thunderbird...?

Thanks! I am a happy gmail user again.

If I correctly understand what you want to do, you can adjust where Sent items, etc at stored by going into the account settings (Tools -> Account Settings) then select "Copies & Folders" under the account, and hit "Place a copy in" and select "Other" and drill down into the account you want Sent items to be stored in.

If you want to have all inboxes in a single inbox, you need to use Global Inboxes: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Global_Inbox, though I don't think this works for IMAP.

Something else to look at, Turning Thunderbird into the Ultimate Gmail IMAP client: http://lifehacker.com/software/geek...nto-the-ultimate-gmail-imap-client-314574.php

I've been experiencing the SAME issues with Mail and IMAP Gmail.

It takes forever to download new mail -- and this is even when new mail is actually downloaded. I've had a number of messages not come through. These messages are NOT spam.

Everything is FAST in Thunderbird.

Sucks... I want to use Mail, but it's very very slow and un-reliable.

Thunderbird is awesome -- very feature-rich, but ya, doesn't look as nice as Mail and it's not as integrated with the OS. One thing I *hate* about Mail is the attachments. If I attached a file, it goes inline, whereas Thunderbird keeps it separate from the text. Small thing, but annoying.

However -- Thunderbird has NO integration with Address Book. Another disadvantage. Ugh... this is a PITA.

I also had tons of problem with IMAP Gmail account in my mail.app under leopard. After few days and many failures  I decided to get back to POP which works perfectly and is fully sufficient for my needs. Its just too much hassle to make IMAP work...Although on my iPhone its OK
