Hey guys! I have a problem with these two apps. I bought this MacBook from a guy I know, it's in an amazing condition, only two years old and barely used but I can't activate these two services. I checked my Apple ID on applied.apple.com and it's fine. I signed into iCloud and it was fine, but with these two all I get is:

Could not sign in to iMessage.
An error occurred during activation. Try again.

Same for FaceTime. What could be the issue?

I have the same issue but on both. Mac and iPhone and I'm not able to make it work. I tried almost evrything what I found on the internet, but last thing (factory reset) still remain.

There seem to be some issues with Messages on Sierra, some discussion here: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/imessage-on-mac-not-showing-contact-names.2045918/

I initially had problems setting it up after I updated my MacBook Air to Sierra but eventually got it to show all my contacts. But it doesn't show messages that I send from my phone anymore like it used to before upgrading. Haven't taken the time to troubleshoot this yet.

It's so annoying. I googled the problem and literally tried every suggestion I've found and nothing worked.

I dunno if I should way for High Sierra, maybe that'll change something...

I ended with Apple support and they told me that it's hardware issue of my iPhone, probable simcard, but they didn't explain to me way it's not working on my Mac then. I'm being dissapointed :(
I'm on High Sierra now

I was an Area Manager for one of the big wireless carriers and we had a similar issue that turned into an escalation that I had to deal with and this situation reminds me of it. Basically, the customer purchased a brand new iPhone from one of my stores a week before and it didn't come with a preinstalled sim card when the employee opened up the sealed box, so the employee just pulled out a new sim card from our inventory and activated it with the device. The customer came back into the store a week later because he couldn't get FaceTime to work on his iPhone and we eventually found out that the IMEI (similar to a serial number) was associated with a device that was supposed to be sent to Saudia Arabia, where the government doesn't allow FaceTime. I'm not sure if the iMessage was working on the device or not, since most people don't pay attention to it with the ability of it utilizing text messaging also. I highly doubt that this is the issue as I have never seen anything like this occur before but I'm sure it could happen again. A call to the right person at Apple can verify that your device is registered for USA but I would be a lot of reps would just tell you that is a USA device without actually looking it up.

I'm still fighting with this also. Good news is, that I switched ISP and now iMessage and Facetime are woking on my iPhone. Unfortunately on my MacBook still not. I was digging around and found out that I'm able to run it from Guest account without any problem so it'll be some stupid thing what blocking it. It looks that it stuck on logging in.

Things what I have done:
1. NVRAM Reset
2. Disable Firewall, KeyChain, Add public DNS
3. Deleting keys from KeyChain which belongs to iMessage
4. Safe Boot etc

Only things what I want to try is to move all files from ~/Library/Preferences and try it to run it step by step.
EDIT: It doesn't work either :(
