iMovie for iOS now requires 11.2 or later
iMovie for macOS now requires 10.13.2 or later

Apple also requires new iOS apps to be made for iOS 11/iPhone X

So, while I do NOT think the optimizing performance for older batteries is a problem (I'd rather have this then have my iPhone suddenly shut down, I've experienced this in the past, and it's typically at inopportune times, like when using navigation.), however, this no longer supporting software for older devices IS purposely obsoleting older devices, however, I'm sure it's something they can get away with legally.

Considering iOS 11 runs on devices soon to be 5 years old I don’t see much obsoleting.

Curious if they’ll ever update the remote app...
also when will this stupid iMovie app gain some basic functions from final cut...

Good to see this gets some care. But kind of embarrassing it took so long.

I cringe every time I see Super Retina display. Out of the myriad of words they could’ve selected they went with super. Lol

They could have chosen "Turbo" or more likely "Magic"…

Software development often has diminishing returns. Throwing more money (more bodies) at an issue can slow things down rather than speed them up.

If the problem is that the same people have to do everything related to iOS and they have to borrow people from macOS, more bodies sounds like a decent plan.

Well heck like I said they're a multibillion dollar corporation this shouldn't be the case at all.

True, but it likely also keeps the development intimate. If Cook hired more people for each team updates would likely be more frequent, but the integration might take a hit. Less people does have its advantages. As Dogbert once explained:

some of those iOS devices can't run beyond iOS 9.3.5, and some people have not updated to iOS 11, still running iOS 10.

more importantly, with macOS High Sierra APFS issues, many Mac owners, some of whom could have purchased their Mac just 8 months ago, are still running macOS Sierra and may not update to High Sierra anytime soon. (I know this thread is about iOS :p)

...(edit)... it seems like to gain full functionality with the newest features and products, they are dropping support for even last year's OS, which is a bit much, if you ask me. Not everyone updates to the latest OS, especially if it's buggy.

which remote app, iTunes Remote or Apple TV Remote? update for what? for iPhone X full screen?

if iTunes Remote, I think they are done with it
if Apple TV Remote, yeah, it's overdue for X support

you'd think apple would update their apps for this first since they already asked developers to do so. They seem to be getting a bit out of sync lately.

That is one thing I wish Apple didn’t do quite so heavy handily. I wasn’t even going to update to iOS 11 on my iPad Pro but my iWork suite wouldn’t open any files due to an permission error message, yet it worked fine on iOS 11, unluckily for me iOS 11 only just recently started working decently with the 11.3 update.

It’s not just about black bars. This is a representation of Apple’s lack of dedication to the entire phone/experience on multiple fronts, including tone death to the price.

A 256GB 8 Plus is $949. The price difference is really not that much.

And Apple, being a huge company, is going to have departments of various sizes and capabilities that all work independently of one another. What one department is able to do in a few months’ time has no bearing on the rest of the company.

Apple really needs to put more effort into their creative app suite for ios. More and more people are using 3rd party apps to edit their video & photos. Nothing wrong with that, Apple makes $ off of 3rd party apps...but Not too long ago, Apple would release major updates to their own apps. What happened? They discontinue apeture for editing photos. Imovie is still pretty basic. And Why no Final Cut for ios yet??! Makes you wonder what Apple is doing.

The only software departments, which seems to have act together, are iOS GARAGEBAND and LOGIC PRO X department and FINAL CUT X department.

Please, make them design and support iOS
