iPad Air import video/image from usb hard disk

On iPad Air 2 I activated Photo synchronization to iCloud and I need to select some hundred of image/video from usb portable hard disk to import them to iCloud.
If I bought lightning-usb to link hd I could to browse this documents?
What way to use to import these video/image?
 
It would seem easier to use a MacBook or a Windows PC/laptop to view the images/video files--then upload them from the external drive to your iCloud account from that device. Much faster to scroll and select using a mouse than a touch pad.
