Apple has issued a 3.0.1 update to the Apple TV to address an issue that causes content to temporarily disappear from the device. They sent out this email notifying customers:
Dear Customer,
If you've installed the Apple TV 3.0 software update, you should immediately update to version 3.0.1. This prevents content from temporarily disappearing until it is resynced.

To update your Apple TV software:

1. Reboot your Apple TV (unplug the power cord and plug it back in)
2. Select Settings > General from the main menu
3. Select Update Software
4. Select Download and Install

Note: Your Apple TV will conduct a restart, which is followed by the Apple logo and a status bar.
For more information, please refer to this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3116

If you need further assistance with your Apple TV, contact AppleCare.
Sincerely,
Apple TV Team
Apple launched the 3.0 software update for Apple TV last week which overhauled the Apple TV interface and added compatibility for iTunes LPs and iTunes Extras.

Have noticed some weird characters appear instead of the actual names of tv shows etc.

I didn't get this email though..

There was a quirk though: my LP's were updated and in Peter Gabriel's So+, the music videos wouldn't play through the LP -- only via the tv interface -- but the music would.

I don't expect that to come with this point.point release though. It's probably just a fix for that critical bug they found.

got the email. woke up this morning to my entire library gone off of my ATV and it syncing all my stuff all over again. I thought i was drunk and did something stupid, but i guess its just not me!

Glad to know Apple tries to fix bugs as fast as possible.

Talk to the Mac OS team, not Apple TV team. They are separate and release separate updates.

Not fast enough, me too lost my ****. No big deal. It's not like it was my only copy.

Hear Hear

Wow! OSX Snow Leopard killing data when using the guest account and Apple TV 3.0 data loss. Get your act together Apple.

Been an Apple user since jan/04 and I have never seen so many miscues on updates. Whats up Apple?

Lost content

I too lost my content about 3 days ago. I wasn't sure what to make of it. It has not happened since but I'm glad to know Apple fixed whatever it was.

Anybody updated to 3.01? Did it do the trick?

Anybody got the update yet? Is it a "it just works" fix, or do you still have some issues? The biggies like missing movies should be easy to see and play (again).

My 3.0 problem showed all the streaming content like movies as usual, but none could be played. You clicked them and it would look like they were about to stream over, but they wouldn't. When I checked iTunes, and the movie list in the drop down under Apple TV, it was blank. Historically, the list of all streamed movies would be there ghosted/grayed out. My guess is that 3.01 should make them playable again on any Apple TV with this problem, as well as put them back in that list in iTunes.

So I'm still sitting at a reverted 2.4, awaiting someone giving a "it just works" again for this particular kind of (apparently common) issue.

Jerky Menus

Has anyone else notice the menus acting kind of jerky after updating to 3.0.1? That and scrolling text is also jerky.

And, yes, I also lost all my content.

The Apple TV always seem to be so buggy.

I wish Apple would care a bit more about it. It could be a wonderful product. When it works it really is a great way to watch my iTunes media.

What is wrong with apple?

SnowLeopard plenty of bugs.
Apple Tv now buggy too.
New 27-Royal-Crown-Inch Imac speed problems

This is so sad :(

I think it is buggy largely because of the outdated hardware. I don't think it can handle all the tasks the Apple TV has to perform.

Got this update too late

All my stuff started to re-sync 4 hours before they sent the email....

Getting 3.0 to sync, resync, and it resyncing on its own has not been the problem (well that last bit is one of the problems); it's getting all the content that used to be there to show- and play- as it used to do.

ANYONE with 3.01: If 3.0 had content showing- but not playing- is it working now?

If you synced some content and streamed others, can you get both types to play?
