I apologize if there has already been a thread created for this, I searched and couldn't find it.
Basically, I'm trying to import 15,000 songs from my external 1TB HD into my iTunes Library on my iMac, problem is when I started importing I noticed that the songs the songs were also being stored onto my iMac's HD, anyone know how I can avoid this?

I cancelled the import process after about 800 songs.

Thanks, Chris

Well, your iMac's default location for iTunes library is the internal hard drive, so when you import the songs, it just copies them onto the iMac. You can make the external 1TB HD the default location for the iTunes library in the settings, but that of course means you can only access the music with the hard drive plugged in.

Open iTunes Preferences and uncheck the box I marked then when you import the actual music files will stay on the external drive and will not be imported to the internal drive.
