Wow. This is a rare jewel on MacRumors.

Agreed. I see a lot of money being thrown away for new computers when it isn't really necessary. There is a definite crowd mentality on this forum when it comes to blowing $$$ on Macs. I suspect that like the housing bubble much of this spending is only possible due to credit cards, which makes it even sadder...

SSD isn't the answer to every question.

Agreed again. SSDs are the latest Mac fad: LOTS of money being spent mainly to obtain an increase in speed. Sometimes it seems like every other post at Macrumors extols the wondrous SSD, even when it isn't relevant to the thread. I suppose that now that even the lowliest CPU is plenty fast for most people it makes sense for computer companies and third-party vendors to push SSDs in order to increase their profits.

And now for the flames!

Hi,

in early 2009, I bought a 13" MacBook (aluminum case) with all the best features at that time : 2GB memory, 2.4Ghz processor.

Now, I have started doing more image processing and graphism, and it's a bit slow.

What do you recommend :

- buying a new MacBook Pro (2.8 GHz and why not 8GB memory, 7hours battery)

- or buying let say additional memory (4GB) and an additional battery (5hours?)

Thanks.

Best,
Yohan.

It is about 40 bucks probably to move to 8 gb of RAM and maybe 200 dollars to go for a 128 gb SSD. Guessing that would probably give you a darn nice speed improvement.

I have a 13" MBP with the same specs as you and I plan on riding it for the next 2 years (already have had it for 1.5 years). Then again, I'm not really sure how demanding your work is. I think you might be able to take that computer all the way to 8GB. Just check on OWC.
