Mine is perfect got it on launch day.

Mine was perfect on launch day as well. Since then, I have like 5 or 6 extremely small knicks and one small scratch (white iPhone 5)...

Big deal, I will put a case on it eventually and those will all be hidden. It is going to get scuffed up anyway. I am extremely happy with the phone, so I will not be complaining about a few scratches on it.

I will complain about still having to wait for the Lightning to 30-Pin adapters though :p

I want to use my phone in my car again :(

I'm with you on the complaining on 30 pin adapter. lol

Mine has been great so far. Perfect out of the box. However, I always use a case so I"m not sure how it would turn out 'naked'

My white one is great.
Has a few nicks on the shiny edge around the phone, but I don't know if I caused those or if they were already there.
Don't care because the phone is awesome and I don't notice those in normal use. As others have said, it will get those anyway if I rock the phone naked (which I am and will continue to do so).

I have a week 38 production model. Absolutely flawless. I believe 36 & below was the 30% rate of error... I'd say you could get one now (by the time it ships forsure)

I decided to send mine back because of the scuffing issue. I have a very reliable razr that i can use for another year.

Mine arrived in mint condition. Put a case on it and a body scratch protector. Next year the iPhone 5S will be out with the same body, so idk what you're waiting for. Aluminum is not going to magically stop scratching.

how long do y'all think it might take for newer batches of iphone 5s to start shipping without all these problems with light leak, purple camera, scratches, loose lock key, loose glass, home button issues?

When i get one i will be buying it off contract and i dont want to pay $650 for a game of russian roulette with what im getting in the box.

just curious how long has it taken with previous iphone generations?

If you wait much longer they will sell you one of the millions that were returned as new!

My Black iPhone 5 out of the box had not a single problem, not a scratch or imperfection.
Mass production of any product is a heard thing to perfect, minor imperfections must be expected,

Simply to afford a bit of balance to this thread . . . I received my preordered AT&T black 64gb iP5 in perfect condition. It has performed flawlessly without any issues. My daughter and son also received their iP5s in perfect condition and have no issues, as well.

Actually, everyone, whom I know that has a new iP5, has not experienced any issues at all.

No, they'll be sold as refurbs in the Refurbished store or as warranty replacement iPhones in the white boxes (roughly about two months from debut). All retail iPhones are new.

Correct.

Which is why I personally can't wait until the OCD disaster that will be the 30 day return window closing...

Can you imagine the train wreck when someone goes into to open 8 boxes to find a "perfect" phone and they are forced to look through all white box refurbs *GASP*?!?! AND charged $49+tax for the privelege! (Assuming they bought AC+). Hopefully it will force folks to put things in perspective before they schedule an appointment.

Not even mentioning that once the 30 days is up there will be no more of this "swap my black for white because I say so" either... Wait times will decrease, and people will be forced to move on with their lives.

Yikes. October 21st should be a company holiday at Apple stores.

What issues? I'm serious...my iPhone 5 is perfect. I swear people just make things up.

1. Actually there was an issue for the Verizon iPhone 5's that was just now corrected with an update that affected those that saw data usage when on WiFi. That was a biggie, and glad it was fixed. AT&T owners are also seeing this, so no one was making that one up cardinalryan.

2...Mapping is also a big issue, and Tim Cook made an apology for it a few days ago. Not made up on this one either.

3...There are many nicks on iphone 5's coming right out of the box, so that is not a made up issue.

4...Lines on Keyboard or flickering. Not made up

Dont let the forum put you off.

People come here to vent and seek help. How many people start a topic to say "All is well, nothing to see here"? It's rare. For every 1 person starting a thread about problems there are tens of thousands who have no issue.

If you go back in time you will see the forum is just as busy with people complaning about the ip4 and then the 4S. It's always worst after launch because there is such a huge influx of people getting their phone on the same day. Normally its just a trickle.

Purple haze, not an issue. Its lens flare, my £10k of camera gear does the same thing. Dont point it into the light.

The phone is alluminium, It will scratch. Granted it wont break when you drop it like glass but it is a soft metal. You plastic Samsung phones will crack, glass will shatter. There is no perfect material.

Yea, this is a good post. If you listen to this forum, you would end up buying a White iPhone even though you really want a black one so that you can avoid scuff gate. The sad truth is that it doesn't matter because you can get scuffs on the phone regardless of color.

I would take a lot of the information in here with a grain of salt, however, there is some really helpful info buried deep in the pit of negativity if you are willing to search for it.

I would agree with you, (sometimes I think a lot of bitter 4s owners and droid owners post in the iPhone 5 threads for the hell of it).

The only iphone 5 problem with any substance is the bad QC and marked units making it into retails stores.

People keep on whining about Apple Maps, it's not an iPhone 5 issue, it's an iOS 6 issue! Or will those iP4s owners on iOS 6 miraculously have better maps because its an iP4s? Anyone wanting Google maps can have Google maps on iOS 6, it's only a download away.

A handful of people on a forum don't make flickering lines a worldwide ip5 problem.

Apple have probably sold close to 10 million units by now, a few 100 or even a few 1000 bad units indicates a flaw in the QC Department of the manufacturers, however much some people want to make everything a xxxxxxxGate, some people need to take a step back and relax a little.

True.

Given the prevalence of nicked/scuffed units out of the box, I wouldn't be surprised if they number in the million (which is as few as 10% of all units sold worldwide). Someone is clearly screwing Apple by allowing them to slip through QC in order to meet demand under a time gun.

Got black one on first day. No problems at all with the phone. No light leaks or scratches. Checked the phone over and put straight into a case. Only problem at all I had was the data leak from Verizon. It was fixed within the first week and Verizon will not bill overages. I'm happy as I'm sure millions of others are too.
