regardless this is a pointless thread and it reeks of him trying to make people justify his purchase of the cheap iPhone. whenever I see a 5c I think A) that person can't afford a real iPhone or B) they are old and don't need much more than a phone. People who post on the forums clearly care so I would assume OP is in the A group.

Funny, I purchased the 5s and a few months later the 5c and think they're both wonderful, and real, iPhones.

I also paid $1200 for an off contract unlocked 128GB 6 Plus so don't tell me what I can't afford lol.

Contract price is $99 on launch day.

Off contract price is now $450.

Ohh.... That makes sense now. I am currently on contract and tomorrow will the first year with my iPhone. Time flies... :)

Sorry. But you are very, very wrong in your assumption as to who I am. I am not in your A group. Nor am I in your B group -- true, I'm 57, but I am a bit of a techie. My iPad Air is my main iOS device. I use it for productive work. I'm a lawyer, and quite prominent in my field. Just because something is $100 more expensive doesn't mean one has to prefer it even if one can easily afford it. I've used Apple devices continually since the PowerBook 100 (think 1991) and feel I have learned to take the longer view.

I apologize sir. You do you.

In the meantime, I'm still impoverished.

Idk what to say man

The 5c obviously isn't the headline phone at the moment, but it remains a decent choice for some buyers.

Its $450 price makes it attractive for those who prefer to buy phones outright and not get caught in the contract web. It's got a very solid build. No "gate"-type issues to worry about. And it runs iOS8 without difficulty.

I've dropped mine more than a few times in the year that I've had it, and it remains in perfect condition. I keep it in the Apple case. The 5c is a good pick for people who, realistically, tend to be a bit rough on their phones and don't want to stress with having a more delicate and expensive device in their pockets.

The version now being sold is down to 8GB, compared with the 16GB when it was launched a year ago. That will be a deal-breaker for some. But for others, it's manageable -- especially if you store data/photos on the cloud and stream music.

Obviously, the 5c is not going to win any features contests. But there's a market for lower-frills phones. And, personally, I like the plastic aesthetic and how the phone feels in the hand.

I'm inclined to keep mine for a second year. I'll likely get my iOS-device features fix with the upgraded iPad Air.

Ok thanks..... Good luck with your ipad. Thanks for allowing us to listen in your head while trying to justify not upgrading.

The 5C is a nice phone yes (I bought a cheap one as a stopgap when my 5 was stolen 6 months before the release of the 6 and have been happy) ... but I don't think I would recommend anyone I know to but one today.

It is the only remaining device in the line-up running on a 32-bis architecture and regardless of this the performance gap with a 5S is very large.

It is running ios8 very well, but it will probably struggle with ios9 next year and quite possibly not have any update the following year as it will make sense for Apple to drop support for 32-bits iOS devices (which means not only not having the latest iOS but also not being compatible with updates for other apps).

Even for a cost concious buyer I think a 5S is a much better choice as it is 64 bits and based on benchmarks it is essentially as powerful as a 6 (plus as a bonus you get touch ID). The few extra bucks you put into a 5S will give you a phone that you can keep for one or maybe even 2 more years running the latest software - making it cheaper in the long run.

While it might work for some, there's just no way that I would pay Apple $450 for an 8gb phone in 2014. If it were 16gb I might consider it.

I got my wife a 5c last year as it was her first iPhone. It was a great phone!! There was nothing even remotely wrong with her 5c when I sold it last week... It was running like a champ, battery was strong and it looked great as it was in a case the whole time.

But, she liked the 6 (after trying my 6+ and deeming it too large) so we got her one. Only reason we upgraded her phone was because we had an upgrade and its her Bday tomorrow... If we didn't have the upgrade, we would still have the 5c. It was a great phone for what it was intended to be.

it's perfect for students as theyre $0 on the lowest plan for 24 months.
not sure if it'll be perfect a year from now with ios 9 though,,

$450 is not a good price when you can pick up a brand new 16gb 5S for only $100 more.

The price diff in the Netherlands is 200€, which is pretty significant.

399 for a 5c is a great deal TBH, I am still using my 5 as I'm waiting for my 6 Plus to arrive, and it's pretty much still a pretty damn good phone. Fast and reliable.

I wonder how long Apple will support these A6 devices. There is more than enough power here to last years. It would be a shame for anyone to buy a 400€ iPhone now, only to have it receive only one more update. Specwise, they are plenty powerful to last a couple of years.
