i will tes5 FW for you.
driver bwi was included with netbsd 6, it should work for the Airport Card. But Ingried all difßferent Variants for the Option of wpa_supplicant, rc.conf etc.

Regarding FW on netbsd, I tested a FW400 Harddrive, formatted with OSX hfs+, maybe it Thuner-Volman is missing, but its not in the repo.

Thank you. This is really disappointing. The main reason I thought to have NetBSD over OpenBSD was FW support…

I’m sorry but you’re in territory that I haven’t covered yet. I am fortunate to have working CD drives. Maybe ask in the NetBSD IRC channel.

Well, if someone comes up with a reproducible procedure to install NetBSD without relying on an internal DVD-drive, I am interested.

Perhaps installing in QEMU PPC and dd'ing the image to a physical disk with an IDE to USB adapter?

Well, finding a USB-connectable DVD drive would be easier, but I hoped for installation to work in a way it is supposed to rather than having to get special tools and set up Qemu just to hack this through.

@barracuda156 if I understand you correctly you want to install netBSD without a CD/DVD Drive? I did install netBSD with dd‘ing the image to an USB Stick, booting from it and installing it from there with some quirks, but at the end successful.

Failed for me both with a USB drive and a FW stick. (I don’t have a USB stick, but an external HDD should functionally be the same, and it was recognized.)

What I ended up doing for my NetBSD install was dropping the installation kernel to an HFS volume and telling OF to boot it with a USB plugged in (but not booting from it). NetBSD should pick the USB up as an installation source and you can proceed.

It's the same concept as with OpenBSD.

I did it somewhat differently with OpenBSD, as I recall, but I can try this with NetBSD, thanks.

tried installing netBSD on a DLSD powerbook G4 with all the steps outlined, and set the boot variables and everything. however, the screen spazzes out like crazy and i can't really get anywhere further than that. it'll boot and everything, but netBSD just won't load correctly. do i need to set some display settings somewhere so it wont glitch out on me?

From the tutorial, did you include
Code:
setenv boot-command ." hello" cr " screen" output boot
In the firmware params? That line is supposed to resolve that issue.

The whole thing should look like

Code:
setenv boot-device hd:,\ofwboot.xcf
setenv boot-file netbsd.gz
setenv boot-command ." hello" cr " screen" output boot
reset-all
