Personally I'm a Nissan guy, but the only vehicle sort of compatible would be the Murano- IMO too small for a 6'5" male.

I don't want this to sound too ranty (and this isn't directed against you), but Americans have a very jaundiced view of the kinds of cars a 6' 5" person can fit in comfortably. The Golf, for example, has plenty of headroom for a person that tall. A friend of mine is 6' 4", drives an old Subaru Impreza and he says it is perfectly adequate.

People need to re-evaluate their standards. You do not need a full-size pickup/SUV if you are over 6 feet tall.

You're forgetting that most tall American's aren't just tall. They're also wide. A 6'+ American would have to consider the distance between his gut and the steering wheel as well. I know of several 5'5" guys who barely fit into a Golf/Rabbit.

In that case, pleading tallness is a fib...and I'm not sympathetic. If your belly pushes up against the steering wheel, isn't buying a larger car a case of getting hold of the wrong end of the problem?

My best friend drives a 2011 Murano- He's 5'10" and 150lbs. His head is about 4-5" from the ceiling. How would someone 7" taller not have constraints sitting in this car?

Of course it is. But if the general population took care of its health correctly, there wouldn't be 30% of obese people in the USA (I don't know the exact number).

You are making the incorrect assumption that all that extra height is all in his torso.

If that were true he would look pretty odd. ;)

According to the official specs, The Nissan Murano has exactly one inch less headroom than the Chevy Tahoe/GMC Yukon. (40.1in vs 41.1in). The diminutive Nissan Versa has 38.8in of headroom, just 1.3in less than the Murano.

In other words, the inside proportions of a car do not scale at the same rate as those of the exterior.

My dad is hardly a thick guy. He's probably got about 10 cm of room between his head and the ceiling in his Tahoe as it is. Sadly, a Murano is out - a bit pricey up here, not roomy enough, and the CVT is a definite downer on it too.

Hmm, interesting responses. We'll definitely have to shop around a bit. I really like the Edge myself, as does dad.

The problem isn't always headroom. I know lots of taller folks have problems with legroom. I have a few friends who have issues with my Protege because of legroom. Yeah, they could fit in there and drive it, but it wouldn't be very comfortable.

Perhaps they are just used to huge cars and perceive anything less than acres of space as "discomfort"...Telescoping sterring wheels go a long way towards relieving the supposed legroom issues.

I just bought a Kia Sorento, Kia's larger crossover model, a couple of months ago. So far, I am loving it. I didn't get the V6 because I have no need for that, but the fuel economy for mine on the highway is about 26 MPG (or about 11 km/liter). It's quite spacious and had all the features that I wanted for less than what I was expecting to spend. I was pretty much sold on the Sante Fe until I checked out the Sorento, and the deal Kia gave me just couldn't be matched by Hyandai. I would at least add it to your list.

I was also going for a model that was built in my home state, which both the Sante Fe and the Sorento are.

I have a CR-V which is an awesome car so I'd recommend it. Also I'm 6' 4" and it has plenty of room. As for how it does in bad weather I've driven it in some snow and it was fine, but I'll know better after this winter since I just brought it up to to school in Canada.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I think we're gonna check out the Calgary Auto Mall this weekend, and have a peek around. My dad is really liking the Santa Fe, which is slightly baffling - he's generally not a Hyundai guy.
