Barefoot for me, as soon as I get in from work. It immediately feels more relaxing.

Shoes off for me. I prefer that guests take theirs off, as well, but I'm not going to argue with my 86-year-old Grandfather if he wants to leave his shoes on, either, especially as I know it's hard for him to bend over to put them back on.

During the summer, I generally walk around barefoot, I wear socks in the spring and fall, and a nice toasty pair of slippers in the winter.

Hmm...I just wear my shoes. Part of it is that I just think that they're more comfortable, and I always make sure there's nothing visibly on them, and part of it is that I wear Converse All-Star hi-tops almost exclusively, and they're a royal pain to put on and take off constantly, as I would probably wind up doing otherwise, what with having to go places and whatnot. So they stay on.

and part's also that the hard floors in my house usually have dirt and whatnot on them, and i hate that feeling on my feet:o

Two words: Porno Gil
LMAO! I <3 Larry David. Who ever thought pettiness could be so hilarious? :D

(I can't believe I didn't think of that )

It reminded me of a Sex and the City episode where Carrie is forced to take her shoes off and ends up getting them stolen.

During summer, I wear mostly slip-on sandals and shoes so they come off as soon as I get home anyway, just to get them off my damned feet. If I'm in the kitchen or bathroom I might wear flip-flops if there's liquid about.

And I have no qualms about wearing shoes indoors or having other people wearing shoes either because:

a) They're guests, why embarass them?
b) That's what coir doormats are for
c) I clean my floors
d) I'd rather visitors didn't have to track their stinky sweaty verucca-laden, yellow toe-nailed platters across my equally dodgy flooring
e) House slippers are prissy

I used to work for a flooring company. Golden rule of floor-buying: don't put anything down that you're happy seeing damaged, regardless of how nice it looks, because gravity will win in the end, no matter how precious you are.

Shoes off at the door for everyone. I lived in Japan for 8 years and learned it is more than a cultural thing. It was once believe wearing shoes in the house not only tracked dirt into the house, but also brought in evil spirits. Granted most Japanese people no longer believe in this, but it is shoes off all the same.

If you visit a Japanese restaurant or store you will sometimes see two small mounds of white powder on either side of the door way. This is salt that has been blessed and is placed at the door way to keep out evil spirits as their patrons walk through the door. You don't see this that much in Tokyo, but outside of Tokyo you can still see this practice being used.

I was round a mates last night and got thinking about this again. There is some kind of unwritten rule with pretty much every house I visit - no shoes upstairs. Ever.
Shoes can only be worn in the entrance hall/foyer/utility room/kitchen or whatever the first room is. Past that you're being very cheeky and need a stern seeing to! ;)

Amusing Topic

We're a mixed household ... I never wear shoes in the house ... my husband always does. Of course, I don't wear shoes in the yard either ... and the minimal amount of footwear I can get away with anywhere else ... maybe it's the Southern girl in me ...

Me personally? I wear shoes at home because we have an indoor atrium I'm constantly walking through.

I'd say it seems pretty balanced where I live - about half of the houses I visit have a "no shoe" policy, and the other half couldn't care less. ...Usually the people who care have nicer houses. ;)

Everyone in my family goes barefoot. Unless they're wearing slippers. We really don't care, do what you want (unless they're muddy, then you take them off).

Prof. :apple:

When I was at uni I wore my shoes all the time, otherwise your socks would get very very dirty, but at home, cream carpets etc etc, shoes off as soon as I get through the door, always have, always will.

No shoes...

But you could probably guess that based on my username, and my domain names:

I tend to always take my shoes off. So does pretty much everyone I know. The SO also tends to take her socks off at my place and at her apt (but not other peoples place), I assume it's a cultural thing since she's from India.

No shoes in my residence.
My brother gave me a pair of hand-made house shoes that he got in Kyrgyzstan. They have become an integral part of my "lounging around the house" experience. Pointy toes FTW!! :D

:D Honestly, you should see this man's feet. They're a miracle of nature... skunk, do you occasionally wear shoes for any particular purpose; a really formal gathering, say?
Perhaps twice in the last five years. I only have one pair of shoes, and my feet are made of better leather anyway :)
