I just saw these cases on the shelves of a local best buy.
Comes up for $59.99 though.

What the heck are you guys doing to get these tiny magnets to work??

I bought some magnet strips and I had to frikin triple stack them to get it to work. Really looks like crap. How did you figure out the exact alignment and stuff? Are my magnets just hella weak or something?

Those magnets don't work. Just get a solid little magnet and glue it on.

I cut a small hole so it would sit more flush with the case.

This case also works great at this angle even though there isn't a notch, because of the angle it sits. I use it when I lay on the couch and want the screen more straight up and not at an angle.

They were ringing up at 39.99, they list for 59.99 like the first one so it was possbily an early mistake?

Lucky. The price on the hanger said $59.99, so I asked the person to ring it up to see what it was and the hanger did not lie. Doh!

No offense, but that looks ghetto. If you wanted sewn-on stand "notches" instead of the grooves the Incase jacket comes with, and if you wanted a magnetic closure, you could've just bought one that came that way:

What product is that?

What product is that?

Cygnett Lavish. I hesitated to post that because I've mentioned it as an alternative to the Incase jacket a few times and (even to myself) I'm starting to sound like a shill for Cygnett. It's just that the case is a great alternative to the Incase jacket because of:

- Sewn-on notches
- The fact that it's slimmer than the Incase jacket
- Its magnetic closure mechanism
- It protects the edges of the iPad better since the case extends about 1/2" beyond the edges of the iPad.

It's $40 at buy.com and microcenter.com. They have a full leather version as well that's $60.

Nah, I don't think it looks that "ghetto"

Maybe not professionally done but it looks ok and it's functional. Also thanks for letting me know what I could have done, I was under the impression that the Incase was the only case being made for the iPad 2.

Actually, I wasn't. I wanted a case immediately that I could put my iPad in and that was available locally. The one you posted (with no link, that's helpful) is not available locally and I would have had to wait for shipping. I got what I could have right now and made it work how I wanted. I have a 4 year old that uses the iPad to watch cartoons, I needed something now.

It really doesn't even need the strips all along the binding which is why I just use enough for support.

I have a Magazine Jacket by Incase on the way (because I had a problem with the notches, they are sending me a free Magazine Jacket) so that will most likely be my case of choice since it's thinner. I will also be adding a ghetto magnet to that one.

Also the one you posted doesn't appear to have any strap to hold the front flap in place when you are holding it, that's annoying. That's part of the reason I returned the smart cover, I don't want to baby sit a giant flap of leather. The Incase you can strap it to the back and not have to worry about it. I'll pass on that one.

Bottom line, I made something I needed immediately work better to suit my needs. I think in person it looks fine. Hardly even noticeable when using it as a stand, and not seen when the front cover is strapped to the back or covering the screen.

Fair enough. I was just trying to point out that there's at least one other case available that's very similar to the Incase jacket (which I orginally wanted but couldn't find) that doesn't require the mods that a few have done. Obviously there are other iPad 2 cases available but there are very few that provide almost identical functionality to the Incase jacket...and it took me some searching to find the Cygnett.

I've never used the elastic band to hold the flap of my Incase/iPad 1 back so that wasn't a concern for me, but I can understand why you'd want that.

And don't take my comments so personally. It's just a case, and while you needed one now and were willing to compromise aesthetics and undertake modifications to get functionality, there are other options that don't require you to do so.

Here are a couple of links BTW:

Buy.com

haha I hear ya man. It just gets under my skin when people say no offense then proceed to say a somewhat offensive comment.

It's not like you were making fun of my mom, but I think you could have worded it a little differently while trying to give some constructive criticism.

The flap not being held back is a deal breaker for me, it just gets on my nerves having to hold it like a book or keep the flap at bay. Otherwise that looks like a nice case and certainly a great alternative (if the flap isn't an issue) to the Incase for the price. I just really got annoyed with the smart cover flap when I wanted to hold the iPad like a magazine, made it feel like I was holding a book which I didn't want.

With that being said, if people need something sooner than later, waiting on shipping and such might not be an option.

Ghetto....how dare you? ;) (I know it looks like a user mod, but still not bad considering I don't make cases for a living)

To be honest, I didn't really even NEED to do the mod, just wanted to out of boredom when I was home sick. The last notch works fine and is pretty much the only one I use, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to add some added functionality.....and thanks to Incase I got 2 cases for the price of 1. The case should work better out of the box as a stand with the last 2 notches though, and that was the point I made to Incase when I called them to let them know people were having issues with the last 2 notches. Basically they are kind of useless without some sort of modification. Some say they work ok for them, but I just don't see how. I've seen like 7 of these cases and they are all the same, the notches just aren't deep enough as the Ipad is angled forward in the front 2 positions.

I don't think the notches are a deal breaker at 40.00 as having that elastic strap is a nice feature that many cases don't offer, seriously once you use it you realize how annoying that flap can be. That and the case still does work as a stand without modification, just not that stable in the positions I mentioned. However at 60 bucks I would expect this case to be pretty much perfect and right now it isn't. Though none are.

I would not have purchased any case for 60 dollars though.

Honestly I never had an issue with the notches on my original Incase Book Jacket. In fact, I had planned to replace my Cygnett case once I was able to get my hands on the new Book Jacket, but there were two things that led me to keep the Cygnett: its slimmer form factor and the fact that it better protects the iPad's edges because the outer part of the case is larger than the iPad. Obviously the elastic strap and the additional padding of the Incase might be more important to others than they were to me.

Wish I could say the same for this one. The last 2 notches were useless. The slightest bit of movement in the last 2 caused the ipad to just slip down. Especially on my lap. Now I can move around freely and it doesn't budge.

found this case at my local bestbuy yesterday. The price tag said $39.99 but came up at $59.99 when they went to ring it. I informed the cashier of the $39.99 price tag, manager went to check, pulled the tag but gave me the $39.99 price. Stoked!

so i have had this case from day 1 of getting my ipad. The had like zero case options, so this is what i got from BB. Ddidn't know there was such a hooha to get it.

I have made mine have a smart cover. Temporarily for now. I uses a 1mm x 8mm neo magnet. One that small does not have that much pool and is super thin. Right now it is held on with electrical tape. if i choose to keep the case I will use a vice and something circular to indent the case (just like the stand indents and the logo) and make a hole for it.

so my thoughts on it.

- It is SO thick. Yes it protects the front very nice, but it is way too thick. This is the main reason why I will prob take it back. Use it for a few days then take the ipad out and it will blow your mind how tiny it is and how your forgot it was so tiny.

- it is pretty heavy. The leather stuff is very strudy, but since it has 2 layers of it everywhere, it is really heavy.

- protection is decent but it should have corner bumpers. the way mine sits in the bottom corner is VERY close to the edge

- it doesn't slide the ipad in 100$, it is so barely off, so that the cutouts for the home button is just off a little. Not a big deal, but wanted to throw it in.

- it really doesn't look good with a white ipad. kind of stupid. Black would look better but i barely got this ipad as it was, i couldn't be choosey.

-the top edge of the "leather" has already flaked a bit, this was at like day 3. was very surprised at that

- the back instantly got a couple snags on the back of it, and i handle my stuff with kid gloves (the gentle kind not like if a kid was wearing boxing gloves)

- the front cover get a slight bow to it. This is from turning the cover around to read it like a magazine, since the spine is thicker on the left, when you hold it you are naturally bending the cover inward. so then when you close it back up it now looks like this (|

+ Mine stand up find on all 3 notches. I can type pretty aggressively on the closest notch and it doesn't come off. I can't believe people are added thick ridges to it, not only is that going to put pressure right into the middle of your screen if it did get hit head on, but wow, lets make it even thicker!

+ It does work great for watching movies. that is what has me torn and no other case is rocking as good for me on that.

+ the material around the bezel is thick and sturdy. Yes this makes it thicker but it doesn't get all floppy like i have seen other cases.

I think that is it. this is after using it for 2 weeks, carrying it back and forth to work everyday and using it pretty heavily. It does great, but then i take the ipad out and am like DAMN this thing is tiny and i want a tiny case. Looking at the marware ceo hybrid or something similar.

I just picked up this book cover yesterday at a local best buy also. Very weird in that it was the ONLY one on the shelf and it had no box at all. They knew the sku number though and found the price of $59.99. It was in brand new condition, but I got them to take $10 off so I paid $49.99.

I also can't decide what to do. It seems like there is just not enough quality cases out there at the moment, and like many others, I am not patient enough to just sit here and wait for them.

Like mentioned above, damn this thing is REALLY thick. It definitely destroys the form factor of the ipad2 and would do the same to pretty much any other tablet. The main reason why I am considering keeping it is the ability to lay down with this case on my lap and basically have it sit up. The grooves work rather well for me, for the most part they don't slip out. If I really go out of my way to shake it it will slip out, but really not an issue to complain about as I used it. It's really useful that it just stands on its own like that and you can just play with the ipad without having to hold it up. If the smart cover somehow did that I wouldn't even be considering any other case right now.

But I agree, it's a tough call... I can't decide how important it is to have a stand vs form factor.

I don't find it to be heavy at all really and the ridges don't touch the screen or add any thickness whatsoever, also I've had no problem with flaking. If you haven't noticed there is a gap between the front cover and the screen created by the border of thick leather around the screen. Call me skepticle but unless Incase changed something I don't see how those last 2 notches are functional on any of these cases.

I had the case for about a week now. I'll give a very brief review on the case. So far so good. Little thick but I'm not complaining if it protects my iPad at work and traveling, mostly for work/school. Taking it out to Starbucks, casual outings, at home, I use my blue poly smart cover. So far no complaints of the incase book jacket for iPad 2.

I've had the case for about a week and a half.

I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this already, but the flap-side that comes in contact with the front glass of the ipad does not come in contact with any elements that you may be placing your ipad on (kitchen counter, dirty table starbucks table etc). I thought that was kind of neat and gives me some piece of mind when setting my ipad down someplace.

I will echo the comments about the notches:
1- great
2- mediocre (rarely is it ever able to be securely propped up in this notch)
3- useless

I really like the protection it provides as well as the look of the case overall. It is a little bulky, but it's one of those trade-offs you must make if you want your idevice to be pretty safe/secure. I can definitely throw this in a bag with notebooks and such and have no fears it will come out unscathed on my morning commute.
