Saw the new InCase Hardshell at the Apple Store. I liked it so much better than the Speck... I bought it. The Speck weighs 14.2 ounces - the InCase, 12.4 ounces. The Speck Satin is rubbery on the outside but still is hard brittlely plastic on the inside - the InCase is softer on the inside to match the outside. The Speck has a 2.25" square of narrow vent slots on the bottom on one side - the InCase has vent holes all across the bottom.

All in all, the InCase is more malleable, less brittle feeling, lighter weight and better vented. Unlike the previous generations this case does not restrict the display tilting all the way back. I think it's just a better case.

One other note, when I removed my red Speck case from my MacBook, I had several red scuff marks. They came off, but I didn't like that at all. I only had it a few weeks, so I wonder after a year or so if the hard brittlely case would eventually scratch up my MB. Who knows.

Nice. Looks quite promising. Did you purchase it from a UK Apple store or elsewhere?

I might have to look into the Incase one and if I like it I'll sell the Speck on Ebay

I just picked up the blue one from the Apple store and I'm loving it. I'm also protecting my macbook with the Moshi ClearGuard and PalmGuard. Both are amazing as well. The PalmGuard does cause a sliver of extra thickness so the hooks on the Incase can't quite get over the top, but it still clips and holds everything secure. This is just a minor thing though and not even noticeable.

weight of macbook with case? does it open all the way?

Hi,

I have a question for Incase hardshell users who use it on their aluminum Macbooks. Does the Macbook open all the way with the incase hardshell on the laptop? I've heard rumors that it does not allow the laptop to open all the way and that it only opens a little more than 90 degrees with the case on.

also, how much heavier is the macbook now that you have the incase hardshell on it?

Thanks for your input, I'm thinking of getting one so any advice is great!

Yep... It opens as if there is no case on it at all. The problem is with the old hardshell case for the white and black macbook. I'm using it now and the lid isn't restricted one bit.

Thanks a lot Andrew for the update.

I was hesitating to get the hard case because i know that even though the satin case like Speck that has te soft exterior, the interior (the part that actually contact the MBP) is still hard and might scratch the MBP whenever it has a chance.

Knowing that the new incase has a soft interior is just a deal breaker for me. I was searching around for 3-4 days and about to place the order for speck satin but lucky enough to find this thread first. I will definitely get this case with another hard sleeve just in case i need to take it elsewhere.

I tend to take care of my laptop for the first month. After that, i tend to toss it around (of course on a futon or something very very very soft) so i think it might be a good idea to get a hard case for it even though i've never actually scratched my laptop (as far as i know)

By the way, anyone lives in Bay Area? i'm wondering if there's any store around here that carry this case? I don't remember seeing any of laptop case at downtown SF apple store or Marina,SF apple store but i might be wrong since i was there for iPhone so i didn't pay much attention to MacBookPro accessories.

Thanks in advance :)

PS: I've just bought mine at the Chestnut apple store and i love it!

I was wondering if anyone knew overtime if the harshell scratched the aluminum macbook itself? Some of the reviews on the apple website have said that it has happened but it's difficult to tell if that was from the person or from the shell itself. Thanks so much for your help!

I have the hard case from * speck, I've had it since day one, not a scratch on it, one of the best case out there.:D

I'm guessing hardcase users are the same type of people that put plastic on their couches to keep them looking new. Who cares if the MB doesn't have a scratch on it, if you're stuck looking at an ugly hardcase instead of the computer itself?

Couldn't agree more. Yes there are those that need something like this to ruggedize their computer if they are rough with it. But most people baby their machines anyway. What is the point of protecting something from scratches if you never even see it without the cover on?

I really love the way the Speck ones are completely transparent and I think it looks awesome! I might just have to spend 50 on it when I buy my Macbook.

Blue, Green or Orange? In Your guys' opinions. What looks best?

Of those choices I like the orange one. Whats the main difference between the Speck and the one you can buy from Apple? Which would you recommend?

I brought the black satin for me and hubby, love how it feels, smooth

If you like the look go for it.
What extra protection does it provide? Scratch protection? What is the point of having a prestine computer if you can't see it? If they are anything like Iphone, Ipod, car etc, covers, they are likely to trap dirt inside and still scratch it. Why not one of those clear foils, like the ones from Zagg.

Protection from being rough, ie. dropping it? I don't see it either. I doesn't seem to be a shock absorbing material. So your computer still gets jarred. I guess it would protect against something being dropped on it...

But if you want that, get some big rubbery cover, that will protect it.

MY plan is to get a sleeve and some kinda of clear film to protect it. I'll baby it and take care of it... until the first scratch or dent.

Oh, the freedom that first scratch or dent will give me. After its asthetic beauty has been compromised, it gets treated like a tool, that it is, and not a baby.

Actually, that's not true. Babies are really resilient and can put up with a lot of damage and will still be loved.
