I used a matte black incase slider on my 3G for approximately six months. Very solid case, however it did scratch the bezel quite a bit and kind of pi$$ed me off. The body of the phone was pristine however. It did save the phone from at least one fall to a hardwood floor with zero damage to phone or case.

I think that is the cost/benefit tradeoff. Small particles of dirt / dust get into the case from pockets, bags, etc. That dirt is highly abrasive within the case especially with the tight fit. Personally, I'm hoping for the avoidance of a catastrophic fall and will have to deal with the scratches :(

As an analogy, car covers present a similar problem...

Mine is leaving marks on the back cover of my IPhone. the marks correspond exactly to the rails on the inside of the case. With a bit of hard rubbing with my fingers and a tissue, they go away.

That really scared me for a second. I wonder if the material the rails is rubbing off or is it the coating on the phone not liking the material its up against...

Anyone else experiencing this issue as well?

This was happening while I had the slider on. With a good amount of wiping (micofiber cloth) the marks were gone. I use the Moshi iGlaze case now.

ok, so I guess I'm a little concerned here. I put my incase slider on right when I got my iphone. The iPhone and case were both free of dust; since I don't take the case on/off at all do I have to worry about anything being scratched? Should I be taking the case off regularly and cleaning the inside out or something?

That is the general recommendation. Take the case off slowly and carefully, maybe once a week or so. Use a micofiber cloth and preferably a cleaner spray such as an lcd cleaner (ammonia and alcohol free, and such) I use the "monoprice screen clean" spray bottle it even comes with a big microfiber. Clean the phone and the interior of the case and you can then put the case back on.

The slider isn't an air-tight case (none of them are), and as such were air goes dust usually follows. I think dust can get in from the headphone jack and the camera lens, especially if the case lives in pockets, which are full of dust and lint.

If things do not move, they won't scratch. Last week I took the Incase Slider off my iPod Touch 2nd Gen for the first time since the week I bought both and with the exception of residue from the protective rails inside the back slider-cover the Touch was pristine. Bezels were free of scratches and I saw nothing that I feel was not there the day I first put it on.

The Incase Slider for my new iPhone arrives today and after a super cleaning of both it goes on the phone and I anticipate not taking it off for a very long time. The way I see it the only way a bonifide scratch can occure POST-application of the case is if some very small particle gets inside and some how moves around in a very tight spot. Even if that is so, you risk more scratches by periodic removal, in my opinion anyway.

@ ducksoup, those are my thoughts exactly; but out of curiosity and my OCD to keep my shiny toys as new and clean as possible I took the iphone out of its case *gasp*. No scratches on the phone or bezel but did notice some dust/dirt accumulated around the openings of the case. Just gave it a quick wipedown and put the slider back on. For the most part I don't plan on making it a habit to take the case on and off.

Yeah i was always curious why some people dont get scratches and other do. I think you might have to expand the poll to include if the phone was carried in a pocket, and how often the phone was removed from the case.

I'm sure the more time in pockets the more dust particles it will pick up. The more dust and the more times it is removed from the case the more scratches i would guess.

I never experienced any scractches cause by the slider. Me and my girlfriend each have one. We've used them on the 3G and on our 3GS with no problems. However I am tempted to go case less on mine since I am very very careful with it. Maybe I'll just throw on a Bodyguardz for extra protection.

i just replaced my slider with a iclear (needed a belt clip) and there were Z E R O scratches on my phone...the only thing that wasnt perfect was that alittle dust got under the rim and created a while line around the phone, had to wipe it off.

The case didnt fit tightly...well maybe the bottem...just slowly removed it, didnt rush at all...and it came right off.

Incase would be smart lining the inside of the case with rubber like SGP does, or even just lining the inside with felt, silicone, or a microfiber cloth. It doesn't make much sense having a glossy plastic on the inside, they could at least carry the rubberized material from their matte Sliders into the inside of the case. I'm pretty sure that the two Incase Sliders (metallic silver and metallic red) that I ordered will scratch my iPhone up. I wouldn't mind a few small marks (the tight fit of my Sena Ultraslim pouch that I used with my iPhone 3G left a few hairline scratches on the back of my iPhone and a few knicks on the bezel, that didn't really bother me), but I don't want my bezel to get completely ruined or something like that because of the Incase Slider. I'm pretty confident that the black Seidio Innocase II I'm planning to order as well won't damage my iPhone anymore than a small mark. I might just get another pouch, though, I'm not sure if I'll like the look and feel of always using a case.
