Actually just how bad is the speaker muffle? I rarely listen to music through it, but I do quite often listen to spoken podcasts. Will if effect them that much?

It is significantly muffled, but that is not the major issue with sound. It's the kazoo rattle sound that is more of a problem.

so i'm thinking about getting one of these to replace my lifeproof.

i think the lifeproof is a great case. yes it has newton rings but they don't bother me. my biggest problem with the lifeproof case is the screw-in headphone adapter is a huge pain and it looks like the atlas has solved this problem.

a lot of the reviews say the sound is terrible on the atlas, but there are a lot of reviews that say the sound is terrible on the lifeproof as well. i certainly think that a "naked" iphone sounds significantly better without the lifeproof but it's certainly still very usable.

can anyone comment specifically on the sound quality from the atlas v. lifeproof? when i say sound i'm talking about both the ear piece and the speaker. thanks!

Is the kazoo effect on the earpiece or the speaker?
Unfortunately,...yes. There is a cob that seems to help the earpiece. A little sliver of tape (I am going to try fabric first aid tape next) over the earpiece slot only seems to make it much better.
If you lower the volume a little, the speaker buzz is largely reduced.

I returned 2 of the Atlas cases due to the sound degradation. Even in a totally quiet room I could not hear the keyboard clicks when composing messages, etc... Went back to my LifeProof for a while but now I'm using the Griffin Survivor + Catalyst case. Loving it!

I currently have this case, and lets just say that until they fix the screeching sounds that occur when you're talking on the phone, I'm returning this case and going back to Lifeproof.

Go to settings. Accessibility and switch the hearing aid setting. The screeching will be a thing of the past.

Well, finally had to return mine to Incipio. I was dealing with the sound degradation issues because I liked the case so much otherwise, but then the silent switch stopped working. I could get my phone into vibrate mode, but not out of it without taking the iPhone out of the case. No easy task! So back it has gone. I decided to just return for a refund for now.

Crazily enough jumped back to LifeProof, which, other than the plasticky screen, is really perfect. No sound degradation. No issues with sensors. Speaker phone is perfect. Everyone hears me perfectly on calls. Go figure.

I've had the atlas since it came out.

I'm trying really hard to ignore the sound degradation of this case because of its sleek design and tempered glass. But its really killing me

Did you get the lifeproof from the store or directly from Lifeproof. I "may" jump on the lifeproof bandwagon but I'm hesistant if the ones in the store resolved the issues that many were complaining about.

According to some reports, Lifeproof added a foam on the back of their case to improve the sound quality and vibration, so I dont know if yours had it.

I bought mine from Best Buy in the tan color. Yes it has the foam strip across the back piece inside. Seriously no vibration noises at all. Whatever they did, they did it right. I just wish they used a glass screen protector like Atlas.

2 things since I dont have a lifeproof:

1. You dont mind requiring to keep track of the screw for the headphone port when you want to use earphones?

2. Do you need to use the earphone adapter to use earphones? Or is it only for underwater experience? I thought I read someone that the earphone plug wont inside unless you use the provided adapter regardless if you are in the water or not

3. How much of a gap do you see between your screen and the screen protector of the lifeproof? Does it impair sensitivity a lot?

There's a little holder on the adapter that fits the screw.

2. Do you need to use the earphone adapter to use earphones? Or is it only for underwater experience? I thought I read someone that the earphone plug wont inside unless you use the provided adapter regardless if you are in the water or not
The headphones fit, but the case loses its waterproofness (is that a word? ;))

Not everyone experience any problems, and amongst those who do it seems like most of them say the problem disappears with time. As if using it makes the plastic "settle".

Here's my analysis of the Atlas case after 1.5 months of usage:

So after using my atlas case for that period, and annoyed with the feedback noise, I decided to take my case off and try that method suggested on here to eliminate/decrease that noise.

I've had the case on for 1.5 months, and during that time, I open the bottom cover at least once a day to charge.

So, when I opened up the case, I see dust on the earpiece grill, and specks of dust all over the screen.

It is highly unlikely that the dust was a result of me constantly leaving the bottom cover off to charge, because then there would be no explanation for the dust on the earpiece.

Then I thought, what the hell, let me water test this thing to see if the case was still tightly sealed.

Well, here it is:

Tested it for 30 mins, and within the first 10 mins, the top corner of the paper was already wet.

As you can see from the bubbles in the picture, it was coming from the earpiece grill as well as the top right corner of the case.

Amazing, the one spot where I thought it may have caused a leak was absolutely dry, i.e. the bottom cover. I was surprised it provided that tight of a seal even though I was opening it every night to charge the phone, and it did not provide that "snap" sound when it was shut.

Even though water indicator turned red at the bottom left, the bottom of the paper was dry, so it may have probably slithered down from the top.

That probably explains the dust on the phone when I opened up the case.

Mind you, when I got the case, I did not water test. This was my first time water testing it. The reason was because I had already went through 2 replacements at the store and was feeling lazy

I dont think this leakage was caused by the extended usage of the case, but rather a defective case to begin with.

I'm sure it would have failed if I had water tested it the first time I got it replaced.

Unfortunately, I'll stick be going back because:

1. I'm extemely OCD
2. I dont like the bulkiness of the Armor and the stress put on the headphone plug from the cover
3. I dont like the plastic cover of the lifeproof, the seal (which will wear out eventually), and the plug adapter to use headphones

I just filed a claim with Incipio, and see how it goes...

*SIGH*......I really want to like this case....THEY WERE ALMOST THERE!!

Never Mind! Epic Fail! :/

I was all excited about it, then kept reading, ugh wish it was, but I will stick with my Life Proof for now, not going to spend another $100 on the Incipio case, just wait for iPhone 6 and see which cases come out already.

I just wish Apple would waterproof their phones already, I mean c'mon Apple how much more could it cost, besides you just pass off the cost to us, the consumers anyway.

hey guys, thought i would post some brief thoughts i had on the incipio atlas.

coming from a lifeproof, i thought that the atlas would be a ton better but boy was i wrong. i'll do a short pro-con list here.

pros:
1. headphone port cover was attached and my bose ie2s fit without using an adapter. this was by far the biggest advantage over the lifeproof and the reason i held onto the atlas for so long. i hate the screw-in removable headphone port cover of the lifeproof which forces you to use the adapter.
2. glass screen. everyone makes a huge deal about this but while i found it to be slightly better than the lifeproof one, it really wasn't that noticeable to me.

cons:
1. screen sensitivity. typing was a huge problem with this case. i had to put a fairly significant amount of pressure on the screen in order to get keystrokes to be recognized and even then forget about typing quickly.
2. charge port cover. the bottom cover was ridiculously difficult to open each night in order to charge my phone. like so difficult it literally gave me bruises. i understand this needs to be tight in order to keep the case watertight but this was way overboard.

also, briefly i found the atlas to be noticeably heavier than the lifeproof and every so slightly more difficult to hold given the materials used. so for now, i'm back to the lifeproof but will likely try the survivor catalyst because the headphone port cover is attached to the case.

Just my two cents... As much as I wanted to love this case I couldn't get past the kazoo sound that everyone is talking about. It completely ruins the case and any good qualities it may have... On a better note I have found what I think is the best waterproof case out there right now! The Survivor+Catalyst blows away Atlas sound quality(not hard to do), build quality is better than lifeproof, waterproof to 9.6ft, and FINALLY someone put a leash on a case that could easily end up at the bottom of the lake if you're not careful.

So did you personally use the case or you're just going by what other people are saying in this thread?

Got mine replaced for a ripping home button and call squeal. Had it on for about a week pull it out of my back pocket, just walking around, no sitting and I have a crack on the bottom right corner of the screen. Wonder if they will replace it again. Either way, back to LifeProof. It just works.

Had mine also replaced but for stretched home buttom, i.e. when you press down, part of the rubber along the edge pops out.

It's just sitting here waiting to be sold while i'm also using the lifeproof fre

Now I'm waiting on the Nuud :D

Two questions for everyone:

1.) To anyone who has put a business card or cloth or anything in the back, does the affect (effect?) the waterproofing? Also this is just the crazy in me, but nobody thinks this will cause the iPhone to bend do they? I know the case is very rigid but I'm paranoid about these things.

2.) Has anyone heard of fake Atlases? I bought mine from Newegg but I'm still a little concerned.

Mine is doing the same thing. What did you tell them? I wouldn't mind getting a replacement to sell to get the nuud.
