My 2010 MBP was Hi-Res glossy, and I didn't really like the tiny fonts on menus and websites (since returned). But I did like the extra screen real estate.

I've pretty much decided to go with Standard resolution on my 2011 MBP, but I've been looking into Lion's Independent Resolution.

Couple of questions:

1. Do we know for sure the Lion is going to have Ind. Res?

2. If so, what will that mean for me? Could I, for example, have lower resolution for Safari and OS Menus, but use the full resolution in iMovie?

I hate to spend $90 on a screen that I have trouble seeing, but if Lion solves the issue, maybe it's worth it.

I'm wondering the same thing, I'm not entirely sure on how apple is going to implement it. If it is going to be any form of the Windows RI, then I don't think is will alleviate the issue, especially if you were having eye strain when you had your hi res screen. I bootcamped Windows 7 on my Hi-Res Macbook Pro just to see if my eye strain issues resolved by altering with the RI settings, and it still didn't help me that much. I'm probably gonna go with the standard res display. I think it would be best if you got the standard res just so you will be happy the whole time you have your computer. Sometimes a downgrade on a computer can be an upgrade in terms of usability. Plus its more money in your pocket. Winner winner chicken dinner.

I don't think anyone can truthfully say that they know for sure that Lion will have independent resolution. So, I wouldn't hang my hat on that.
