As opposed to Apple's CSAM spying software?...I see this going in the direction of full on government spy OS.

Erm... what's that supposed to mean? ?This making "a lot of sense" had me very fearful of the future in the US. Then I saw you are in Scotland. Carry on.
Unlike satellite radio...?We absolutely need another OS. Only two OSes to choose from is pretty horrible.
You do understand the difference between % and absolute numbers? So why on earth Apple is opening their retail stores in India.
In a very recent article Netflix was having a tough go of setting their pricing to Indian subscribers because only 5% of the population can afford to use the premium OTT service. So in that context the marketplace is half that. So about 65 million out of the 1.3 billion. You do understand the difference between % and absolute numbers?
For Apple 10% of 1B is still interesting to sell to. At the same time 90% of 1B is interesting for the Indian governemtn to sell to and control (esp. w.r.t. banking - none of them have computers)
That a government should focus efforts and funding on providing something that is arguably rapidly developing and advancing in the private sector - as if they are filling a void. It's the opposite of making sense.Erm... what's that supposed to mean? ?
Great. Competition. The mobile space needs more competition so there is no longer a "monopoly/duopoly".
Even if India is a little bit successful, this poses more a threat to Google than Apple. I see this going in the direction of full on government spy OS.
Like the internet and WWW?That a government should focus efforts and funding on providing something that is arguably rapidly developing and advancing in the private sector - as if they are filling a void. It's the opposite of making sense.
The tax structure in the US geared towards incentivizing investment in businesses. And there’s a few world-leading software companies there. At least a few I think. If only some government incentives were sufficient to make world-leading software.
I don’t know, I read that here on the daily"We need more diversity and fragmentation in the mobile operating system market"...said nobody!
you should really check out india reddit and wion, they really like to prop themselves up and talk up how they will take over china and the us as the number 1 in everything. You're going too far on India and it's abilities, you're just doing pure degrading of a country.
All the first iteration needs to be able to do is be cheap, work well enough (make calls), and run WhatsApp. They can iterate after that. I think a lot of people just need to look at what WhatsApp enables to understand how the world outside of the US works.I really don't see why an Indian consumer would pick this OS if it lacks all the Google apps including YouTube, Gmail, etc. It will probable lack any app by non-Indian companies, and even some Indian ones. Microsoft and Samsung both already gave a third OS a go with poor results. Huawei's lates effort should tell them something as well.
It makes sense to me.I would rather have my goverment tracking me than some other government which has even less accountability to the populace.
Outside of the US, the most important App is WhatsApp. If this phone is subsidized by the government and has a version of WhatsApp, it’ll have broad acceptance from day one. While a lot of developers like nice well defined SDK’s, there are those that LOVE the challenge of writing code in a difficult environment (iPhone year one) and I have no doubt that they’ll jump in to fill the near term gaps. It’s not the OS that’s important it’s developers, they need to give a compelling reason for developers to develop for their platform.
they not only need an OS but an AppStore a great set of SDK tools a large enough install base which is going to be hard to achieve as buyers of the new phone are not going to see any third party apps like iOS and Android, as one has too remember iOS took time before Apps came along as well as Android tho today the average user is going to expect apps from day one
Nearly choked on my food, thank you.“We’re going to call it Indian OS or IOS and we think you’re going to love it” *keynote ends in an extravagant dance number*
Look at the percentage of middle class in India which has increased in past two decades and only 20% of the Indian population is under poverty line which is a big number when we look at the population size, but what on earth is this 90% poor population? You do understand the difference between % and absolute numbers?
