Well, they learned from experience, a hard one that is.Apparently, Maruti-Suzuki is one of THE BEST car manufacturers in India with huge amount of cars sold.

We should stop buying Apple products!
hardly a new thing - case in point - my uncle works for an agency which has a contract with a plastic warehouse- the agency gets $12.50 per hour - my uncle get $10.00 (minimum wage in NJ, USA)
Same for clean, organic food, affordable for (on a global scale) rich people only.I wonder what the real price of the iPhone would be if someone, somewhere down the production or supply chain wasn't being exploited?
Was waiting for a critical comment like this. Not to worry Tim Apple will be like Teflon for this issue, because this is Apples’ fault. /sCurious to see Tim Cook virtue signal his way out of this.
Imo the issue is not capitalism, it's simply human greed. You can use whatever system you want, it will have flaws as the ones running the system are humans.Same for clean, organic food, affordable for (on a global scale) rich people only.
Also shows that capitalism did not create much real value to mankind.
Few countries became rich because most countries are poor. And they need to stay poor to keep the lifestyle in the western world going.
Yes unfortunately its the same in many areas of Africa. Famine & poverty is rife but they still continue to have children knowing full well that those poor children will suffer and many will die.Off topic, but I still think there is something wrong with Indians continuing to make children knowing 54% of their people live in poverty...
Just sad to see this. $7 dollars and there are plenty of billionaires in India.Paid as low as $7? I mean I know money has a different value in parts of the world but cmon..
Sounds like apple needs to fire that factory. If the owners are shady to employees apple should withdraw contract
Probably, this is what is called a move mentality, get a group of people and tell them (with or without reason) that they have been cheated. voila......Wouldn’t it be better to just down tools rather than destroy them?
Did you read the article? This had nothing to do with Apple, a sub-contractor contracted labor from another firm. Even with a better contractor accountability program than almost any other manufacturer, Apple can hardly be found at fault here, unless it knew about it beforehand and failed to take action, or now that it is clear something is happening, if it fails to take action. Damn those laws in other countries that manufacturers have to abide by, no one gets to re-write them for their benefit.Wasn't my (or your) fault, I paid a whopping US$ 1082 for my new iPhone 12 128GB. Seems to be a problem of how they share our money.
hmmmm, they already do. But I'm sure your advice is well-regarded. In fact Apple has one of the strongest contractor responsibility programs. And yet, crap still happens in China, India, and other places. Like it used to (and probably still does) in the US. Know there is going to be an inspection, and pretty up the plant to hide the abuse from the inspectors. Hence the birth of Labor Unions, like them or not, they serve a well-needed purposeSince this is called an "iPhone plant", I'd like to know what percentage of workers are producing iPhones - some time ago there was a report of workers at an "iPhone plant" in China threatened with suicides because Xbox production was reduced, so nothing to do with Apple.
And second, since not paying employee's wages is really egregious, it would be nice of Apple to put something into the contract with the manufacturers: If workers producing iPhones don't get paid, Apple will pay them and subtract the money from the manufacturer's bill.
it is called "prevailing wages", Not saying that these people weren't ripped off by their contractor, sounds like they were, but the capitalist mantra we all learn is that you pay people enough to attract, retain and motivate competent people (never applies to executives though, does it?) and that is at rates in the local labor markets. It would be nice if we established a global minimum set of standards, like TPP, and then all adhered to it.Paid as low as $7? I mean I know money has a different value in parts of the world but cmon..
Maybe they were hungry.I get that way if I dont have my morning coffee.
There is a global minimum. Its zero. The price you pay people when you fire them and look for other options because some rich Americans interfered in your local economy.it is called "prevailing wages", Not saying that these people weren't ripped off by their contractor, sounds like they were, but the capitalist mantra we all learn is that you pay people enough to attract, retain and motivate competent people (never applies to executives though, does it?) and that is at rates in the local labor markets. Freeangel1, I'll give you an example how it works in some civilised country: In Germany, if you let's say hire a company to install a bathroom, and when the work is done you refuse to pay, and they believe they won't get money out of you, the company will come back and smash up everything they installed in your bathroom. That service will be provided for free.
Same thing happens today in the US. The less you make the more children you are likely to have. If it can't be fixed in the US how do you expect it to be fixed over there?Off topic, but I still think there is something wrong with Indians continuing to make children knowing 54% of their people live in poverty...
This is contrary to what most economic researchers think. Worldwide poverty has been declining for a 100 years thanks to free markets. The idea that someone can sit on a computer in a rich western country and imagine free markets did little boggles the mind. in the US and most first world countries we are 100-10000 times as rich as we were 100-150 years ago depending on how you measure.Same for clean, organic food, affordable for (on a global scale) rich people only.
