Happy 2025! šŸŽ‰

Infuse 8.0.9 is now available and includes a handful of streaming related fixes and improvements.

Infuse 8.1 with some great new additions is now available for iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac, and Vision!

Alphabet scrollbars

The browsing experience has been rebuilt from the ground up for improved performance and reliability. In addition to being faster this lays the groundwork for some great new features, such as an alphabet scrollbar to quickly jump between sections while browsing.

Note: The quick letter jump feature is available on iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV while browsing Infuse library categories as well as Plex. On Apple TV, the letter bar is hidden to start and will appear automatically when scrolling quickly through a list of videos.

Stream from 123 Cloud Drive(123äŗ‘ē›˜ļ¼‰

Direct support for 123 Cloud Drive is now available! 123 Cloud Drive is a popular cloud service available in China with storage options of up to 100 TB. This new feature is available to all Pro users.

Note: Streaming from 123 Cloud Drive is available on all platforms (iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac, and Vision), but connections to cloud services need to be set up on iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Vision. Once this is done on a single device the connection will then sync to other devices via iCloud.

More Dolby Vision

Robust support for Dolby Vision has been available in Infuse for quite some time, and today it gets expanded even further with added handling of even more Dolby Vision (Profile 8) variants! These changes are available on all devices and will be available automatically after installing the 8.1 update. The latest versions of iOS/tvOS 18, macOS 15, and visionOS 2 are recommended for the best experience.

STRM files

A STRM file is a versatile format which can be used to build of library of lightweight text files, each containing an HTTP link to a video file stored elsewhere. This works similarly to the Direct URL feature but allow for links to be added without having to copy/paste them into Infuse. Learn more about using .STRM files.

Any word yet on when/if support for 3D video is coming for the Vision Pro app? I’m using an app now that Infuse runs circles around but its ability to stream 3D content from 3D Blu-Ray ISO rips and MKV files on my Mac or my Windows PC on the VisionPro keeps me using it when I’d much rather have a solution from a single vendor with apps that work on iOS / iPadOS / Apple TV / VisionOS.

As soon as that feature is there or in a beta that I can test I’ll switch and be very excited to do it!

There’s been no word on if or when 3D support will be added to the Infuse Vision Pro app. On the Firecore forums, the feature has been listed as a ā€œSuggestionā€ since the Vision Pro launched. Late last year, the feature was tagged as ā€œplannedā€ and was added to the list of upcoming features to be added to Infuse 8. But sometime in December or January, the feature was removed from the upcoming features list and the suggestion was demoted from ā€œplannedā€ to ā€œwishlist.ā€ Firecore describes a ā€œwishlistā€ feature as ā€œa good idea for a future update (no ETA available).ā€ So, make of that what you will.

Here’s the suggestion thread for 3D video support if you want to add your voice to the crowd: https://community.firecore.com/t/3d-videos-on-apple-vision-pro/47023

On a slightly positive note, it looks like Infuse will gain immersive environments for Vision Pro in version 8.2, as that has been added to the upcoming features list. That’s a big step in the right direction. But it seems like 3D video support would have been the perfect feature to launch alongside immersive environments.

In the meantime, I’ll keep using 4XVR to watch all of my 3D content on my Vision Pro. Unfortunately, Infuse doesn’t get much use on my Vision Pro due to its lack of 3D support. Like you said, I would love to be able to switch over to Infuse for all of my content consumption on Vision Pro due to its superior interface and media organization features. But I greatly prefer watching 3D content over 2D content on the Vision Pro whenever possible, so I rarely find myself launching Infuse.

Thanks for the info! The latest update I received when I asked about it last year was that it was coming for sure but there wasn’t a time table yet. So it’s too bad to hear that developers pulled back on it. I’ve been using 4XVR as well. IMHO it is was well worth the asking price for the formats it supports and how well the 3D video it produces looks in the app.

As much as I like Infuse and would love to purchase it, if it won’t play 3D content on my Vision Pro then I’m not going to bother.

I don’t have a very large library of content yet, but that’s rapidly changing since I decided to do with video what I’ve always done with audio and that’s to either purchase physical media and rip it into whatever format I want or to purchase a digital versions without DRM that makes revoking my ā€œlicenseā€ to view content I’ve bought an act of futility.

I was smart enough to not let DRM creep into my music library nor to let it slide and to stop growing it in favor of streaming. I pay to stream music but if I really like a song I’ll pay to buy it.

For whatever reason when video went digital and it was clear to me that movies purchased through iTunes and viewed on my TV with an Apple TV were just as good as DVD’s and would soon be better, not to mention didn’t require flipping discs, I stopped caring about following those rules for video content and basically jumped right from my VHS/DVD collection to digital video with DRM eventually repurchasing even the titles I had on VHS and DVD for HD / 4K versions, etc. in a digital format from Apple.

I guess I always figured if and when the time came I could break the DRM protection if I wanted to since back then there was software floating around that could do it rather easily in iTunes. A mistake in retrospect but one that’s easy to correct with a proper Blu-Ray drive, software that can rip those discs with a version of the firmware that still lets you rip content even if it’s in UHD format, and plenty of used media out there for re-sale at a discount.

So now I’m looking at solutions for managing my library out of the gate and as an AVP users who has experienced 3D and immersive content, there’s no going back for me now. That ship has sailed….

Not sure how Infuse works on AVP. But will it be a frontend client to access my plex library? Or do you have to copy the movies/videos directly to the AVP in order to watch them?

Can the audio somehow be streamed to my home audio system while the video plays through the AVP?

Yes, the videos can be streamed from a most any device (Mac, PC, NAS, cloud service, or Plex, Emby, Jellyfin server).

Downloading files is supported as well, so you can easily sync a few videos if you are going to use the device in offline mode.

You may be able to stream the audio via AirPlay if you have a compatible device connected to your AV system.

We’re excited to announce that Infuse 8.2 is available today, bringing a host of powerful new features to iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac, and Vision!

Multiple user profiles

The ability to use separate profiles is now available on Apple TV! With Infuse, each family member can enjoy a personalized setup—complete with custom home screen layouts, network shares, watched history, ratings, parental controls, and Trakt accounts. Profiles can also be linked to individual iCloud accounts, making it easier than ever to keep things in sync across devices. Learn more

Note: tvOS 26 (pictured below), arriving this fall, introduces a streamlined experience with an optional profile selection prompt that appears whenever Apple TV wakes from sleep. Manual profile switching, available in tvOS 18, will remain supported in tvOS 26 as well.

Stream from iCloud Drive

In addition to browsing and playing files downloaded from iCloud, Infuse now also supports streaming directly from iCloud—allowing you to play videos without using local storage on your device. Of course, the option to download files for offline playback is still available.

Note: Apple currently does not allow browsing iCloud Drive files on Apple TV. However, direct links to iCloud Drive files can be added to the ā€˜Links’ section in Infuse, and these links will be accessible on other devices—including Apple TV. Learn more

Metacritic ratings

Alongside TMDB and Trakt, Infuse now offers ratings from Metacritic for movies and TV shows. This rating (Metascore) is a single score that represents the critical consensus curated from a diverse group of highly respected critics. This added perspective can offer helpful insight when choosing the perfect title for movie night. Metacritic ratings are available for all PRO users.

Enhanced AI video upscaling

An expanded set of AI upscaling features is now available, including limited support for current Apple TV 4K models. Infuse leverages Apple’s hardware to deliver sharper, clearer images when playing lower-resolution videos on larger screens. Capabilities vary depending on the device, with the full suite of features requiring an A16 chip or newer. As a result, Apple TV users can expect even greater improvements with the next-generation model—potentially arriving as soon as this year.
