Totally wrong. PCM audio doesn’t have the correct positioning as it was intended on a True ATMOS setup.
The positioning is definitely there with current Apple implementation in tvOS 12. Because the source is DD+ and not TrueHD, the decoded PCM signal is not of equal audio quality.
I was surprised myself to learn, that actually one can transmit Atmos also over a decoded PCM signal.
That is true, that no tvOS app (including tvOS itself) is currently able to send a verbatim bitstream out to HDMI.

What you wrote is a PR speak from Infuse team as they are helpless with ATMOS and DTS HD passthrough. They want to sell their app that’s all. Hopefully Golden Master of TVOS 12 changes this.

At least according to the latest comments on Infuse forum Atmos is still unsupported. Firecore just managed to have the audio working when Atmos is enabled in tvOS (before it was silent). Then why DTS-HD? I thought it was working fine. At least when I compare the audio in movies with TrueHD and DTS-HD tracks they sound equally good to me (and better than DD). Or did you mean DTS:X?

Then, sure. I agree in the tvOS case we are still talking about beta software. Infuse (nor any other app) can't really support anything until the new Atmos API are officially finalised. One should appreciate the effort of Firecore to try to stay in line with Apple development, though.

Totally right if you don't care about Atmos, which I don't and most people shouldn't since the great majority of people only have, at best, 5.1 setups.
Shouldn't they?
Coming to think about it - my dad had a 1.0 setup (a reel tape) and was not even dreaming of stereo sound...
Times change, I guess.

Let him don't care about Atmos but it is the "IN" thing at the moment. Almost all bluerays and online streaming services are adopting it. If one has a proper Atmos setup, the sound is incredible. It is also easy to add Atmos to existing 5.1 setup. One can get those certified upward firing speakers and also get a cheapest Denon/Yamaha/Onkyo receiver with Atmos support and it's done.

For me, getting good quality ceiling speakers and wiring them is the right way as I don't believe in bouncing the sound off the walls to hear it.

The Plex client for the AppleTV is in a really sorry state. The server part is working fine, but I HIGLY recommend using Infuse as the client for the server, as it works SO much better.

you mention Infuse as the server side, but I can't find an Infuse server for Mac. That's why I am running Plex. Any suggestions?

There is none, afaik. Also the way I read the post, he claims to be using Infuse client against Plex server.
BTW you can simply enable DLNA on Plex server as well and use most other DLNA clients as well. I believe any network connected smartTV or AVR has one built in nowadays.

I have both (Plex Pass and Infuse Pro) and have re-discovered Infuse recently. Just does not fail on ATV4K. Plex has been throwing up a lot lately, especially with subtitles and for some reason the color reproduction and quality looks better on Infuse (maybe due to native playback). Currently logged into Plex Server through Infuse and get the best of both.

Infuse Client, with Plex server.

Infuse on my AT4k using a Plex server running on my iMacPro is unusable. Spinning gears, things not found, etc. Problems went away when I changed to using SMB shares rather than DNLA.

Other than the superior sound of Infuse, still prefer plex for it's very rich interface, dashboard with stats, etc.

It should work very simply. I just pointed infuse to Plex and I was done. Works perfectly.

Sounds like you have a faulty installation, or something. Plex Server has been a very nice experience for us, and we've been running it for 7 years now, and it is rock solid.

Plex server has the habit of becoming unresponsive while it waits for version update confirmation on the server side. Plex client (even on aTV) recognises this and allows you to continue or skip installation. Infuse does not.
So it makes sense to always check your server's status every now and then.

Plex to Plex client works just fine for me. It's Plex to Infuse client that causes problems. Has been this way for me since the very first version of Infuse came out. I run a multitude of Plex servers: iMac Pro, WD PR4100 and QNAP 453bt3 and all have problems with the Infuse client running with a Plex server. My Plex configurations are rather complex with lots of libraries so that may be a part of the problem. Otherwise the installations are fine.

I also run 1 Plex server and 1 Infuse client (even the free one) against it. Have not seen any problems and I actually prefer tvOS-like UX that it exposes over that of the Plex client's self-invented UX.

Seems like an issue with the config. This is the first I've ever heard of this issue and like I said, it's flawless for me. So something is definitely going on here. My libraries are very large too. Thousands of movies and shows.

is it a mixed bag of using a computer for the Plex server or just a connected Hard Drive/NAS box?

It can be a variety of things. You can connect a hard drive to some routers and share from there. It can be the computer you already own(this is best), it can be a NAS.
I've used a variety of PC's I've had, an imac and now I'm using a mac mini which is also my main computer.

I have been using Plex on my Apple TV 4K but am giving Infuse a try. Connecting Infuse to my Plex library was easy and now that is done I am wondering if the Plex server app is still necessary? Is it simply the data base of metadata etc for my files? Does Infuse access my files directly from my hard drive or does it do so via the Plex server app?

Also recently started using Infuse as my client. Been using Plex as my server for years and the Plex app on Apple TV etc. Loving the experience with Infuse.

I still like Plex as I can share my library with family and friends. But not having to transcode most audio tracks with Infuse is pretty great. The subtitle settings are a step up compared to Plex as well.

I also like the UI more on the Apple TV compared to the Plex app. There are way to many menus in the Plex app. On Infuse you basically have one screen and it shows almost everything.

Great size to test max bitrate. I’m hitting 250mbps on my 4K with infuse without stutter. Frame rate starts dropping at 300.
