Wonder why it's said the Apple ecosystem is seemless. It's like the reason people get Apple because of how the ecosystem works between hardware.

Is it hype?

People buy Apple because they make the best hardware, and iOS is more secure and polished than Android. There's also a brick and mortar store to go to if something goes wrong.

Apple services are a mixed bag, and the superiority of the App Store is greatly exaggerated. IMO, YMMV, etc, etc.

Having used both android and iOS a lot I don't get the superiority of one app store over the other. Both are good and some apps are better on one than the other. Just my opinion and observations. It's no contest.

I've just been trying google photos and like it except I cannot see any option to use any particular photo as a wallpaper. If I want to change wall papers I have been going back to the iOS photo app to do so. Am I missing something? I generally change walls daily so it is a small annoyance. I'm still trying to figure it out and I'm thinking it does work a little better on android as this feature for one thing is not an issue on android. Storage is good on either one so still looking for any other pluses to this app over iOS.

Yes, have to download it, use the stock iOS photos app to make it a wallpaper. It's horrible, I hate it. I bought IFL Wallpapers too (the app) and I have to do the same thing with that too.

Anyone else ingrained in Google's ecosystem but not a fan of android?

I personally don't use Apple's ecosystem but I prefer iOS and the iPhones hardware.

For me Google's ecosystem is more universal and easier to access. I never ever go on Safari on my Mac and / or when I use a computer anywhere else. I usually use Chrome if I can. All my bookmarks are in Chrome. I prefer Google Maps. I also never use Pages but use Google Drive a lot.

Really the only thing I find useful is iCloud for backing up photos.

(Since I'm ingrained with Google the Pixel looks very promising but held off since it's 'first generation'. I feel the Pixel will be on par maybe the next generation or two). I like the seamless way Google works on the Pixel since I am ingrained with Google more than Apple.

What I like about the iPhone is Apple Care. I have a handful of Apple Store near me and like the fact that if something happens to my iPhone I can get it taken care of faster with a Genius Bar appointment.

Anyone else?

I use Gmail but I'm far from engrained in Google's ecosystem.

I try not to get sucked into anyone's eco system, apple included. The best thing about Gmail is that it you can port it across devices; chrome on mac to Android to iOS to Windows.

I have a strong preference to mac laptops and computers

I have a strong preference to iOS tablets

I am indifferent to Android or iOS phones. I find now a days high end Android phones to be the more feature rich and compelling devices though apple care and the quality of customer service / peace of mind it provides is indeed a strong selling point for me as well. But I'm going to stick with Android for now.

That said I do enjoy Windows a lot and am a big fan of windows 10. Obviously windows is the way to go for PC gaming, Which I am not too much into anymore.

But bootcamp lets you officially put windows on a mac. You can't officially put macOS on a Windows computer.

So that's where the dealbreaker is for me.

Apple care is nice and that's probably one of the main reasons I'm still with Apple. I have 2 Apple stores near me within a 20 minute drive.

I'm going to wait to see how the Pixel 2 is and make my decision. I stayed with the iPhone 7 because it has more features. But the Pixel is almost there.

Agreed, Apple Care is a very huge positive. I think if I was able to receive even half the level of customer support from Google that I could from Apple I would really consider giving google's ecosystem a genuine shot (they have weak support for their products in Canada - I used to own a Nexus 9 and a Nexus 6P both fantastic products on their own but had issues with the Nexus 9 and was a bit of a headache to deal with, and the 6P I had to do everything via my cell phone provider which itself isn't the most fun company to deal with - versus going to an Apple store or even sending it in....it is very "no hassle" and fantastic support wise...certainly has been the difference maker for me when deciding to get an Apple vs non-Apple product in many cases)

My iPhones all have it and its great. Had to use it for my 6s a few times when it was my daily driver.

I can certainly understand waiting, as far as features though its tough to say because I wouldn't categorize iOS as having more features than Android. You can get close if you jailbreak iOS but even then many of those features you'd still have to pay for, and it's still not quite up to par. (Unless I am misinterpreting what you meant by features - like headphone jack, water resistance, battery life etc then that is certainly subjective...I would take water resistance as a strong feature for the 7 but also lack of headphone jack as something against it, for me personally)

I am just sharing my thoughts here, not saying anyone is wrong or right

I'm referring to hardware features like water resistance etc.

Playing with the Pixel I can honestly say the experience is as good as the iPhone 7 software wise. My wife who always used Android in the past always had issues with lagging etc. Damn if the Pixel matched more hardware features with the iPhone I probably would have switched. I like the form factor and hardware. I also like that is has Google services baked in and I use Google devices on my iPhone, don't use Apple services only if I have too.

It has been said that apps run better on iOS. Wonder if that will change with the Pixel?

I don't know about better but they certainly don't run worse. Also, lag is a thing of the past on the Pixel. Seems no bloat or OS overlays makes all the difference.

Yea pure vanilla Android is pretty awesome. No matter what I throw at the Pixel it doesn't lag. When my wife had Androids in the past there was so much lag and other crap.

However so far I'm not liking the Pixel more than my iPhone 7, I like it just as much. I would probably like the iPhone more if it had true multitasking. The iPhone feels more premium in hardware and the iOS with the apps feel more premium. Hard to explain about iOS vs N 7.1.1. I do like the 5" screen though and the double click power button to open up the camera. Picture quality is the same but I like the simplicity of the Pixel camera of point and shoot.

Damn wish YouTube would play in the background while I'm texting or posting this.

Decided to return my Pixel and use my iPhone 7 as my daily driver. Not that I don't like the Pixel, I like it almost as much as the iPhone 7. The iPhone 7 has a VERY slight edge. The only thing that I will miss is true multitasking which I used a lot with the Pixel, playing YouTube in the background while doing another app. Another thing I'll miss is Google Assistant which I used a lot. I use Siri a lot on my iPhone. GA is just way better and important to me is it's integrated with Google apps but I've gotten by with Google on my iPhone. However I do wish that Apple would be in the hardware biz and integrate software that is superior, but that will never happen.

To me both devices offer the same user experience for the most part. They are like each other's counterparts. The Pixel out of the box reminds me of the iPhone. The iPhone 7 is more premium in hardware for me. Of course it's a matter of opinion.

Just don't like the Pixel enough to have it as my daily driver over my iPhone 7. Weird since I love Google services that I don't like it better than my iPhone 7. Thought I would and thought I would be selling my iPhone 7. I used the Pixel for almost 2 weeks straight and I consider myself a heavy user as my battery life indicates. I think 2 weeks of heavy usage is enough time to determine if I was going to keep it and sell my iPhone 7.

Anyone else have a similar experience? Since the topic is about being ingrained in Google services and the Pixel being the best smartphone for it, anyone else have a similar experience preferring the iPhone?

I always seemed to prefer google devices over the past several years having had a slew of them. Decided to try an iPhone so picked up a 6+ back when it was just out. It was ok, but just ok not that wonderful. I did manage to give it an off and on again 6 months trial before going back to android. Sold it then later got a used 6s. Liked the smaller size a lot but it was still an iPhone and I lost interest after a short while. Back to android. Was getting a tad tired of constantly tweaking my android device , an HTC 10. Wanted to get a pixel but the 3 I looked at in store had crappy external speaker and I needed a decent one so held off and kept reading reviews which were pretty stellar for the most part. I just couldn't get past the speaker and now there were lots of issues seemingly popping up with the pixel so I lost interest and still tired of my constant tweaking of the android HTC10 I felt like I was getting some kind of addiction with it. So then I see a Verizon deal to trade a 6s straight across for an iPhone 7 and I decided to give it a try. Really like the 7. Fantastic external speakers! The smaller size is just right for pocket ability and one handed use. Super fast and being apple no tweaking required or very little anyway. I've gone back to the HTC 10 once or twice for a few hours maybe but can't get back into it. Really glad to be stuck with a phone that just works well, does what I need and has battery life that goes beyond all day if need be. It's a keeper and the 10 is gathering dust but will be a fine back up device should my 7 somehow manage to get broken.

I wouldn't call past Android devices Google devices though. The Pixel is really the first device that Google designed hardware wise. I'm sure they had some say in the Nexus' but the Pixel seems like it was built from the ground up by Google.

When my wife had Android devices and people I know there always seemed to be issues with them after a while like lagging, stuttering etc loosing it's smoothness. Not that the iPhone didn't have some issues but not nearly as much.

What interested me about the Pixel was it was built from the ground up the same way the iPhone is. We know that Apple doesn't actually make the hardware but contracts it out like Google did with HTC.

The speaker on the Pixel isn't that bad but the iPhone 7 speaker is defiantly noticeably better. But for me that's not a deal breaker. Even non water resistance isn't a deal breaker. But I have to say the fast charging although not a deal breaker is VERY VERY impressive.

Can't really pinpoint why I like the iPhone 7 better. From someone who uses all Google services on the iPhone you would think that I would prefer a device that seamlessly works with Google services and apps.

OS wise I think iOS and Google Android are equal. So it's probably the hardware.

Can you selectively choose which photos to upload to Google Photos, or is it an "all or nothing" type of thing? I'm currently using a Pixel and can selectively choose which get backed up. But I've ordered an iPhone to use as well so I had planned on using Google Photos on that as well. But I don't necessarily want to backup all of my photos to Google Photos.

I just kept all my Google stuff when I moved across to Apple. So I still use GMail and Calendar etc, I just wish they'd sort out the stock mail app and Gmail so it can do push emails

Yeah, you can turn off auto-upload and then share the pictures to Google Photos from the iOS stock photos app - but it gets painful after awhile. I'd just auto-upload everything then delete what you don't want on photos.google.com (but that's my opinion cuz I upload everything). :p

Me too instead of using the Gmail app.

Besides the pixels, which android phone offer the most pure Android experience. Rooting is not an option (work phone). Thanks.
