I bought one. I also have the 15 inch retina.

Let me tell you this: I new right away I liked it more than the 15. Regardless of it being a total rip-off, which it probably is. :D

Anyway, pull your hair out and beat your chests. This thing ROCKS :D

Then again, if I had to do much heavy lifting, I would be stuck with the quad. But I don't. Buying them on specs when you don't need it, is sort of stupid, no? :D

Do you mind posting a pic. of the 13 rMBP at highest scaling? And 2nd to highest? Thanks.

Wanted to see if your says the same thing...

If you go to about this Mac,

on the line where it says GRAPHICS- The 13 says Intel HD Graphics 4000 768 MB

where as on both of our 15 retinas it says 512MB

Don't know why there would be a difference but intriguing regardless

Interesting... I wonder if that has anything to do with the reduced perceived lag.

I wonder if Apple can up the iGPU memory with an EFI update

I am pretty sure my 13mbp with hd4000 non retina and 16 gig ram only has 512 mb or am I wrong?

I attached a screenshot. What the deuce?

You guys do realize that 512mb is DVMT memory. All it is is ram reserved for the HD4000 that is hard-locked on boot up so OSX can't touch it. If HD4000 needs more memory, OSX will free up some non-allocated ram and allocate it for the HD4000. Look it up, it has NO bearing on graphics performance, unless for example your app needs 768mb of ram from the system memory for graphics and you've already used up 7.5gb of ram. These igpu's are bandwidth and texture fill rate starved mini-beasts. They're never slow due to lack of vram unless you had a 2gb system.

Yup, I know that with lower ram, the hd4000 has 384mb and if you add more ram, as I did, you can increase the vram alotment.

However, it would be nice if I could utilize more than 512 as the rmbp seems to be able to. I wonder why the difference

Despite my criticisms of the lack of dGPU and the actual cost, I am still tempted.

The Engadget & Verge reviews can't come soon enough...

+1.
I am here on this forum to gather maximum infos and feedback on 13" rMBP early adopters as you guys are served before us.

Despite all I could read, despite the nonsense of the price compared to 15", despite the lack of 16Go possibility... I keep on finding it sexy :-/
I had the cMBP 15" maxed out from january to september and I was stupid enough to sell it before 13" keynote.

At lunch I will probably go to my dealer and hope to see it.

This is really great! Glad that its not beimg "slow and laggy" like some say.

Who said this?

I personally went and played with every 13" rMBP in the store. Not a single one lagged at all. It's a fantastic machine.

I wouldn't trade my 15" for it, but it's still a great buy.

I am really reluctant to move up to 15", and don't particular like the MBA. WHy do you like this so much more than the 15"?

Because the 13" is the perfect notebook form factor. I've used a 13" for years and when I bought the 15" rMBP I can't help but notice how big it is. It's not always a good thing.

13" is the best balance between portability and screen size.

I know it true. Why can't I like the MBA?

I've just got mine about an hour ago - really impressed.

I just went for the base model - I'm not a heavy user by any means - no gaming (past Football manager which is text-based) and no heavy photo / video editing.

I've been waiting for this for a while - my 2006 MacBook is on its last legs! I've got them sat beside each other and the difference in display is incredible!

I'm also REALLY impressed with the speakers - I couldn't believe how clear my music is sounding. I guess maybe after 6 years' use my old one had lost some of it's edge!

Like other posters I'm not able to find any info about screen manufacturer, and I've not taken the time to test for IR yet.

Anyone want to know anything!?

I've got one on order to replace my 2010 11" MBA. The screen and CPU bump did it for me, I had been toying with going to the 13" MBA for awhile and when Apple shaved a alb of this one I went for it.

I always chuckle when some folks start in with the "buy some weights, pump up and then go for the 15". The 13" is a great form factor and will fit in most "normal" work bags -- not to mention the dreaded "working back in Coach" while flying.

I'm really looking forward to mine.

Went to the store close to my office at lunch, not my usual store...

The two guys I saw did not even know that rMBP 13 and iPad mini were released !
They both asked me who makes me think that retina display would be also on 13MBR...

Oh yes, it's this way in most of the stores. They have grown to the point where this is inevitable.
Fortunately, with google, and the forums you really don't need to rely on them for accurate info. If you did, it would be a disaster. :D

But you would think, with the keynote and all........

love this thing!

I posted yesterday about getting the new 13 retina and initial impressions.

Already I'm ready to say that this is the best mac yet for me. So much so that I am letting my business partner have my 15 retina.

For what I use computers for which is 95% productivity apps and the occasional angry birds or you tube videos this thing is fantastic. The size and wait reduction over the 15 are immediately noticeable.

I suppose if I was a serious gamer or worked on 3d renders all day I'd feel different but I don't.

Last but least; Plain and simply you do pay a significant premium for that wonderful screen and the new 13 makes that glaringly obvious. But as someone who stares at the screen 6 hours or more everyday, it's worth every penny. Even the old high res 15 display looks course and crude by comparison
