That's a really good point. This year has so far been a lot of hype and bullpucky but not very much that can be called amazing. The iPhone 6 is really great (I've got one) but not really that amazing compared to the 5c I traded in.
As for the entire Mac line it almost makes one ask, "do they still make those" except for the mini which provokes the question, "why do they still make those"? The non-Steve Apple is turning out to be somewhat boring.
Apple IVe with rCRT monitor, optional high density 1" floppy. Optional 512k RAM $600. Newton refresh with special edition 8k model for overseas markets only otherwise 16k base. Apple phone with tactile keypad. Lisa2.
The new iPhones are very nice phones, no question about that. But why the hype and mass hysteria? Why the shortages? Other than Apple finally making a larger phone, what's the Oh my, I can't live unless I get one?
And the iPhone's will get more hype than any Macs or iPads will. Sad, but fact.
You forgot . the Apple Pippin II

I think the iPhone is Apple's prodigal child. If you say Apple to the average Joe, the reply would be iPhone. I think the iPad had hype for a few years, but it has dropped considerably where the iPhone keeps getting stronger.
Ok, then Apple will all their trillions still can't do a proper product launch. People are having their iPhone orders delayed all the while Apple launches the phone in a couple dozen new countries.
Or do they do it intentionally to keep the hype going for several month instead of meeting the demand and let the buzz fizzle away?
What is a "proper" launch?
There are reports that Apple is producing 600,000 iPhones every day.
That works out to a new iPhone being built every 7 seconds.
Not only is that an incredible number... but that was only for the first 12 launch countries.
The iPhone is sold in 150 countries.
What exactly do you expect them to do?
So then what has "been way too long" if all they are doing is iPads and Mac Minis are not being updated?
I don't think it has much to do with that at all. Apple has taken reportedly an estimated 40m + orders/sales of the 6/6+ in one month. I don't care who you are, you are going to have trouble keeping up with that sort of demand.
They can't really launch them much later because they have already gone into mass production, you saw how many rumors there were because of the high interest in the product. We basically already know what is coming out by the time it is announced. Wait much longer and there is going to be genuine product, not just fake copies, out in the wild from black market channels.
It is a proper balancing act, and doesn't require conspiracy theory to explain.
I expect that one shouldn't have to wait for 3 or 4 months to walk into an Apple store and be able to buy any size, capacity or color that they wanted. They are launching in new countries while people in the US still haven't gotten the phones they ordered two weeks ago. I don't see that as a good launch where the consumer is concerned.
This event is going to be a big snooze if it's just a spec-bumped iPar Air, and retina-iMac. Do we even need an event for this?
Unless of course, there is new functionality unveiled for the iPads in iOS8 that we haven't yet seen. Also if the new iMac is significantly different in design.
Being a mega-corporation doesn't mean they get any more insight into consumer buying habits.
Sorry, but some things really aren't that predictable, even at the professional level.
This is an art, not a science.
4K 27" or higher TB displays PLEASE!
Maybe the new iMac will be thinner?

And they blow it year after year.
Indeed, by being the most profitable company in the world.
Then skip the event and take a nap. No one will miss you. This event is going to be a big snooze if it's just a spec-bumped iPar Air, and retina-iMac. Do we even need an event for this?
