Marketing? I haven't seen a single ad on TV for the nano.

Um, Burnsville MN gets the SAME TV and radio stations as does Chanhassen, and every other Minneapolis Suburb. Also open your eyes, as there are 3 billboards in Minneapolis alone 🙄

Time to lower the cost of the nano in the next revision, Apple. I think $300 CDN for a MP3 player is a tad excessive. Bring it down to $150, and expect to sell 100 million units a year.

Need to consider all the design dollars that goes into a product like this. If you lower the price too soon, then you cannot keep the cutting edge products flowing.

I'm kind of surprised. I didn't think there was that much of a mark-up on technology. I know there isn't on the retail aspect of it, but I'm glad Apple is making a few bucks. It's nice to see apple being taken more seriously by its suppliers.

Don't forget to add in the cost of a dozen or more top line engineers and designers, and the bill for marketing and distribution.

I think they should lower the price to around $99. Then I could afford one! 🙂

Or maybe I should go get all the parts and make one for myself. 😀

Yes, in a perfect world, everything would be $99! 😛 😀 Unfortunately, that is simply not a realistic price point for Apple for a variety of reasons, including their own costs/resulting price points, as well as the current pricing tiers between the nano, shuffle and iPod. Change the price of the nano too much and you impact and ultimately cannibalize sales of the others.

Good luck getting a 40% discount on the flash chips from Samsung like Apple did. 😛 😎

40%? Sure! No problem... All I have to do is order about 100,000 of them and I should be set.

Anyone want me to build ya one? Just send me the $$ through paypal. 🙄

Perhaps, but the fact that they are selling well shows that consumers are willing to pay. I'm sure the price will eventually drop. It has, historically, with all of the other iPods right?

I wonder how much it costs them to manufacture the powermac g5??? 🙄

Thanks, but I think I'll just go through Apple directly, no offense... 😉

The actual parts cost is probably pretty low compared to the retail price. But all that gross margin has to pay for the R&D work that went into it. All the work on designing custom cases, motherboards, cooling systems, etc. doesn't come for free.

100,000? They'd laugh you out of the room.

Ten million might get you somewhere.
