Instagram has been testing a "Recommended for You" feature that is now rolling out widely to all users, reports TechCrunch. Recommended posts show up in your standard image feed and are suggested based on posts liked by accounts you follow.

When shown in a feed, these posts are denoted by a label at the top that clearly marks them as recommended, similar to how sponsored posts are handled. With recommended posts, though, Instagram shows several in a row instead of just one.

Recommended posts and videos have previously been displayed in the Explore tab, but are now being featured more prominently. Instagram users now have several feed interruptions, including these new recommended posts, sponsored posts, and stories.

According to an Instagram spokesperson who spoke to TechCrunch, recommended posts are meant to appear "after you've viewed all the posts in your feed." There is no disabling the Recommended for You feature, but recommended posts can be temporarily hidden by tapping the three dots at the top of a recommended post and choosing "Hide."

Instagram has been slowing introducing changes that bring posts from people who aren't actively followed into the Instagram feed. Earlier this month, for example, Instagram added a feature allowing users to follow hashtags rather than individual Instagram accounts.

Recommended for You is still rolling out to all users on iOS and Android devices and may not yet be available for everyone.

Relish it, as ads will undoubtedly rain down on you with fury. I too didn't see ads for the longest time but once they showed up, it was terrible. These two things will probably make me want to leave.

Facebook has to be one of the few companies to be proud of committing feature creep against the will of their users.

More clutter and useless recommendations in the guise of benefiting the user. Which was the reason why I have deleted my Facebook account over a year ago. Looks like I will be deleting Instagram too.

Since it's been testing, who the **** thought it's a great idea and decided to roll it officially? Facebook in general ruined their own site, now Instagram.

Ads have gotten worse I feel over the holidays alone. Or maybe I just noticed even more. Anyways I’ve decided today to leave Instagram because of the ads. It bothers me. It’s sucks because Instagram is the only social media type app I used. It WAS perfect. Until the ads came. The connect with Facebook add. The recommended users to follow adds. Now this? Good thing I’m leaving now.

I had a thought the other day. Back in 2009 it was all exciting getting these new social apps and I feel like ever since the big ones were established there’s nothing else doing things like it.

Are there any alternatives to Instagram?

And slowly it begins. What a crying shame. First the ads, and now we're getting recommended posts.

Instagram is by far my favorite social media platform. It's very discouraging to see it turning into Facebook (because, as we know, it's owned by Facebook).

I left when they nuked the chronological feed, and every new “feature” they’ve released since (either shameless Snapchat rip-offs or further facebookification) has only confirmed the wisdom in that decision. It’s a complete POS at this point.

This is certainly an update that no one wants. Leave it in the Explore page. The main feed is already worse off with ads.

They literally don’t care because they know the users will never leave. Only reason I have Facebook is because the Instagram business feature is tied to a Facebook page.

This is the exact reason why I turned off auto-updates for apps. I did not have ads on Instagram for the longest time until I updated it. Surprisingly, just using an older version of the Instagram app stopped the ads from coming. Hoping it does the same for this crap.

Chronological feed is the main thing I wish they would bring back. Unfortunately I've had to unfollow accounts that I would normally like in order to free my feed up. Since I like the accounts and like most of their pictures, IG has decided that's all I want to see, yet my friend's posts from 30 mins ago get hidden away something like 50 scrolls later. It's becoming more and more of a mess with each new "feature".
