i know you didn't, but i was making an analogy.

people hate on twitter because they don't understand why it's around.

and people hate on instagram because they don't understand why it's around.

Just because people don't like certain things, it's not "hating". It's great that people want to share photos, but every one of them doesn't have to have a vignette with some random filter.

When you sift through the 4th grade education level teenagers posting pics of their "swag", "Swaggage", or their lunch, there are actually a lot of talented people that use Instagram. Like the update.!

The term "hater" needs to die. Cant stand when peers my age use it (only 21)

This just in. Thousands of other apps update to support iOS6 and iPhone 5, but don't get their own MR thread. More at 11.

Check me out too guys: @marioguarneros

I am just installing, I will look you up.

Here is a link to one of my images where if you open it from your iPhone it will have a link for it to be opened in the Instgram app so it's easier for people to find you. They should really have a native solution to link to your profile huh?

On Instagram's "known issues" page, they say that lack of live filters is intentional and that live filters will be going away completely in the near future "as [they] work to improve the user experience."

My personal guess is that they couldn't implement live filters on Android and wanted a consistent feature set, but I don't know.

Woohoo! Now I can crop and mess up the focus/colors of the pictures I take from my iPhone 5's great high resolution camera!

Hey, I work as a digital artist and love pristine quality as much as anyone else, but the filters in Instagram are a hell of a lot of fun.

I suspect the 'hating' is not actually as strong a word as 'to hate' something

This is not Slashdot, circa 1999.

Grow up. You can't wear diapers all of your life if you expect to be taken seriously.

Maybe you were around in 1999 and young and foolish but maybe he wasn't even born back then. Don't deprive him of his childhood.

Whilst I'm not an instagram lover (I've never really used it - hated the effects that everyone slapped on ever single damn photo "ooo its sepia tone...makes it look retro") I had a play around on the iOS6 version and whilst its obviously the same as the last version, when used 'right' it seems to be an ok tool...nothing special, but worth using here and there.

I did this using one of the filters (note: my original photo was already an HDR photo):

For anyone interested I'll be posting more (most of which I wont be 'slapping effects on') - @WDWConnect

I don't understand how anything on Instagram is considered to come from tallent. I'm not hating on any pro photographers who may use it, but by nature this app is designed to filter the crap out of every picture you take. Thus making bland pictures interesting. I've yet to see any instagram pictures that I couldn't duplicate, and I am far from a pro. We are talking about a camera phone here, while the iPhone does have a great camera and is capable of great pics, this can all be done without a filter app. There were a hundred apps like instagram before instagram and I'm not sure why this one got so much hype.

It's kinda cool, it has its purpose, but it's just a bunch of filters designed to spice up bland photos. Leave it at that.

I use it as a way to reach a broader audience and I post non-Instagram pics from my portfolio. So you can see how that is a good use for a pro. But I agree with you - it would be terrible years from now to see everything in square boxes with filters all over them. That's cool for food and random photos but for memories it might not seem as cool years from now.

Quit exaggerating. There are plenty of fantastic photographers using instagram, and a few things you notice if you actually pay close attention to them:
1. Many of their photos aren't taken with phones, aren't edited using Instagram, and don't have any filters from Instagram applied

2. Even the good ones that use Instagram filters share this key skill, their photos are well composed.

3. The filters aren't the addicting feature of Instagram. Its the community and social/interraction through photos

Filtering the crap out of a crap picture will result in a crap picture. Filtering a well composed photo will result in a well composed photo that has been filtered...some people will love it, almost everyone will at least like it as a good picture because it is composed well. People just miss the point entirely of instagram.

I'm positive that the majority of people using instagram use it FOR the filters, not for the social network. If you're a good photographer or just simply took a great photo, you don't need instagram to get it out there. I'm not bashing the service, but I am not going to defend the millions of photos on there that are a waste of time.
