I've been really wanting this lately. Deleted instagram on my phone and installed on my iPad to help with random time wasting during the day.

Absurd to see the iPhone app come up on an iPad.
I just do a home page link for the web page.. a iPad app would be appreciated

Just like Meta had been working on an iPad version of WhatsApp… I.e. don’t expect this anytime soon (or ever).

I'm no software engineer, but if you have the basis for the app with iPhone code, how hard could it actually be to change a few things around to utilize the increased real estate? I mean, Elon is flying people into space in his own rockets faster than IG can make an app!

Their algorithm is junk! I hardly see the posts of people I follow or the stuff I like.
In the IG app, you can actually set it to show you posts from following first. Tap "Instagram" in the upper left then tap "following".

Now if we could only have an option for random or chronological or even better, be able to respond to a text or something and come back to IG and have it be where you left off!

How’s it going to be different from the iPhone app which runs fine on the iPad? If you run it full screen, it’s just fine… What are people hoping for?

This is why TikTok is partially winning. Their iPad app is excellent in landscape and portrait mode. Their website is good good.

Great, too bad it’s too late. Instagram really feels outdated now and the reels are just two week old TikToks and horrific content.

What a crock! Responsive design has been around just as long. Every developer/designer worth their salt can create apps with UIs that respond dynamically to the device.

Taking this long is worse than Apple with the calculator app. At least there were already hundreds of third party calculator apps on the iPad already. And Apple’s implementation with Apple Pencil and automatically finishing formulas in Notes, pretty brilliant.

iPad is meant to display photos on it. Instagram for iPad should’ve been a Day 1 app back in 2010.
Chances are you already had an iPhone or at worse an android phone.

So it was not like you didn’t have instagram access.

For example I have always had it on the windows store but I’ve never used it because it definitely is a phone centric app.

Fantastic to hear about it. Took a very long time. Hope it is released soon and will not take another year for it to be finally available.

This would be great news, but the main issue I can see is how videos and photos would look on an iPad.
Aren’t they typically uploaded as fairly low resolution? Might look fine on a phone, not so good on a 13” screen.

it shocks me how many apps lack an ipad counterpart despite all the infrastructure laid out like over 10 years ago to make it easy to adapt to an ipad variation. things like grocery store apps that are almost the perfect use case for an ipad…just insane.
It's usually due to that the apps are done with a framework, so that the apps works for both iOS and Android in the same code base. Due to this the framework can only support the lowest level of shared features, this usually means skimping out on iPads, not supporting Apple Watch etc.

I use Safari’s “Add to home screen”. It freeze a bit on 17.x but it runs smoothly on 18.4.

We are hearing about it for 5 years at least. “Best thing” and Meta don’t really go well together.

Would have been great, back when I used Instagram for photos. Now I dont use it at all (almost).

Strange how they went to the trouble of making WhatsApp and Messenger apps for macOS yet no WhatsApp or Instagram for the iPad.
