You know MAC addresses are not only changeable but literally non-identifiable at all right? There is zero danger or issue with storing or using a MAC for anything. There are MAC collisions, and they're using by a hardware manufacture to identify hardware on a network to properly route traffic. It's not even like you could pipe traffic to one.

Sure by itself. But when combined with other information like your IP address which they already have they can finger print you.

The same thing was done by LinkedIn's app and probably plenty of others and labeled as a bug right away.

It is indeed done by many apps, including Accuweather, NY Times, WSJ, Overstock, AliExpress, Google News, Chrome, Fox News, Vice News etc. This video demonstrate that. Not sure why only TikTok is highlighted in the news.

Somehow the bugs are all privacy related, I don't see bugs when they charge me money or send me targeted ads.

Either way, 1 year retention is not too bad given that Google keeps it for unspecified number of years.

They're in the business of data and are in business for themselves. What did you expect?

Very easy to fix.

While (RequestForDownload == TRUE; DO
IF (OBJECT == 'MarkedForDeletion')
THEN ExcludefromDownload==TRUE;
DONE
END;
The problem could be that they already have that code - it’s broken and wouldn’t work:
  • there’s a mismatched parenthesis in the first line,
  • you’re only testing one object rather than each object in their collection,
  • you’re testing the entire object against a string value, and,
  • the third line is performing a useless equality test (the result is discarded), rather than the assignment likely intended.

Recently TikTok was caught recording MAC addresses.. But wasn't Google and Facebook caught recording wifi locations and Bluetooth devices? None of these social media apps are safe people- their business model is data driven. They want your data! And don’t feel societal pressure to get a LinkedIn, they’re just as corrupt and don't care about your privacy.

I’m happy I no longer have social media

Unfortunately for many job seekers LinkedIn is a necessary evil.

Meh. cache invalidation is hard. Bugs are bugs are bugs are hard to fix. I'm always amazed at how not-understand people are here that humans write software and humans are flawed.

You dont need it. LinkedIn marketing and society makes you feel like you need it. There’s many other ways to find work.

Yeah, as far as I am familiar with, LinkedIn is very rarely used for jobs in university, research institute or government research agency.

How long are we going to allow these companies to make egregious mistakes with the handling of our personal data under the guise if 'bugs'?

A lot of bugs related to takeout tools. Either companies weren't ready to implement those, or they like to scapegoat a feature they were forced to add.

Yet we are all up in arms over TikTok when it is these American companies that keep getting caught doing scummy things.
Call me when Instagram is handing over information to authorities for the purpose of censorship.

Edit: Funny thing is I wouldn't even care what they did with the data as long as they were upfront about it. Give users the choice.

Having a cellphone is a necessary evil for most people, and it's worse than all the others listed combined. Every cell company knows your location at all times, down to a precision smaller than a suburban block, and they leak that all over the place. In 2018 there was this: https://www.zdnet.com/article/cell-...ed-millions-of-americans-real-time-locations/ . You can't even choose a carrier that doesn't do this; they all do it.

I know this doesn't absolve the others of their wrongs, but once we're talking about boycotts or government regulation, priorities matter.

This "bug" will still be there a year from now because it's making them money without consequence. The only deterrent against bad behaviour like this is a nation-wide ban or prison.

What can LinkedIn even do wrong? I put my resume on there, and I wanted as many people to see it as possible. It's not like I was giving them private information.

About 3 weeks later, I started getting emails asking to interview, many of which I ignored but some of which were worth pursuing. Then I got the job I have today. System worked as intended.

Why is no one surprised. They retain all this data but can’t manage to restore accounts for people lol.
