"Twitter says that accounts that are deactivated and deleted are removed along with all of their data after 30 days, while Instagram says it takes about 90 days for deleted data to be fully removed from its systems."

You know, Google says the same thing.

Personally, its the total reversal of why they keep backup copies of that data on their backup servers...which they never say specially are also deleted as well. Kinda crafty "It's systems" can mean partial as well.

“Instagram said the reason Pokharel's information had never been entirely removed from its servers was down to a bug”

You don’t think there’s some sort of legal requirement that data has to be retained for x years?

There is a LAW in EU all electronic messages should be kept for at least 2 or 3 years. This includes all Instagram, facebook and even Snapchat messages. So is this a bug ? It looks like this was done for a REASON and now removed :D:D its time to sue them ? WAKE UP EU ! :)

P.S. yes even if you remove your account all chat messages should be stored for up to 3 years. Otherwise you cannot operate in the EU.
