There was a time, in the early 2000s, when technology companies weren't actually evil. The people developing the technology were earnest and they wanted to create something good. Unfortunately, wealth is too big a temptation, and slowly these startups aggregated into companies whose sole purpose is to extract money. It was probably inevitable, but still sad.

People who have the brain and go the extra mile to fake birthdays are often the type that have adblockers and “paranoia settings” set to a very high level. Those people are not profitable to target Ads to anyway.

I have’t seen Ads since I started seeing ads and decided to not see them, like ever. I don’t really care if Facebook target me Ads because I don’t see any Ads anyway. I also no longer post anything on Facebook since graduating high school, and I purged all my previous Facebook activities, including likes and comments using a script. Now, I only use Facebook for group chat that I don’t control and to reach ”friends”.

So in a lot of cases they’ll have your email address, your phone number (for 2FA), and now your birthdate. I can’t imagine that would create a problem in a data leak.

I’ll likely use a fake birthdate but Zuckerberg probably has my real one by some means and Instagram is just waiting to flag me for lying. 😂
