That is good to know however probably not great executing apps from external storage by comparison. In my case, the M1 Studio Max internal storage is crazy fast.

I did this "manually" with my Lightroom Classic (LrC) main photo library data (not the app itself) in the past with ~50K+ images that were putting the squeeze on my M1 Studio internal storage. Continued with that approach after switching to ON1 Photo RAW. Both companies said "not supported" thought, it works fine. I back up the external RAID 0 striped dual drives periodically as well.

My Pro M3 14" MBP has 2x the storage so I still run everything from internal storage on that system (and can attach the external drives and work from there on the rare occasions it is needed.

Noticed with Sequoia that my apps are no longer updating when the home folder is on an external drive.
Recently migrated everything back to one external drive but App Store apps still aren’t updating. Have to go into the App Store click on the app and then it changes to update. Have the update settings set correctly, the only one off is updating is the macOS. o_O
