I own a landscaping excavation company, and this is one of my 'specialties'. You want to use a different pipe for gutter drain that you use for your french drain. Use plastic perf pipe for the french drain, and solid plastic pipe for the downspouts. You don't need a cleanout on the french drain, but you do need one on the downspout pipe.

As for the actual french drain, you need a trench 8-12" wide and around 12" deep. Line it with landscaping fabric, then cover the bottom with rock. Lay in the pipe and the cover the pipe with gravel. Fold the landscape fabric over the top of the pipe so that you end up with a 'burrito' effect. Cover with dirt and Bob's your uncle. It's okay if you don't fully cover the pipe with gravel, the important part is to have landscaping fabric all the way around the system so dirt doesn't contaminate the mini leach field you've made.

For a 50' run you'll be using 10' sections of pipe (get them at Lowes or Home Depot). Duct tape the joints, they say they lock together but it doesn't work very well.

At Lowes/Home Depot you'll also find 4" tees and downspout adapters to use on the gutter project. Duct tape those connections as well.

Hope that helps!
