Here is what the dev site calls it . I'm breaking my NDA but who cares. It's coming out today.

When it comes out today, somebody post the build number of the public seed. Then we'll know for sure who is right because I'm quite curious about this as well.

Ok. I'm wrong. The keynote does show it as a GM candidate. The Dev site didn't.

Flog me.

This means the final release will probably have new Apple apps on it.

+1

Edit: GM gold for the 3gs is showing 4.0 (8A293) - we'll see what build comes out in an hour.

If you think the GM that we currently have is going to be the same exact version, line of code for line of code, that hits the public today, you have no idea how software development works, whatsoever.

Everyone with the GMRC should do a full restore, no backup, to the public 4.0, through iTunes, once it is out.

Then why did Apple call it "Gold Master candidate" when they released it at WWDC? Why not just call it the Gold Master?

This doesn't mean anything. Apple does not stop fixing major bugs and issues just because developers have a private "final" version that is good enough to test 4.0 apps on.

Have you even used 4.0 GM rc? its not releasable to the public.

Use a handful of apps and go check your available memory info (because I'm sure you know how). Go see the 5 mb of memory (aka disasterous, unreleasable memory hole) that you have available, after a few apps have been used. After a dozen apps have been used, the 3GS can't even load the home screen without stuttering because there isn't enough memory left.

You think that is what Apple is about to release? LOL~

I am going by what I saw in the WWDC keynote video. If you watch it, it says "Gold Master candidate" on the slides.

Who's the dummy now ? ?

Same build.

Just to be pedantic, but hopefully helpful at the same time... The build number is the same, but the official release today does not include the Game Center that was part of the developer's GM seed. Apple's developers site has been updated with a download of the Game Center separately to make up for this.

This makes sense because Game Center is still in developer preview and not officially in the wild yet.

*EDIT* Looking at what is posted on the developer site.... it looks as if the GM Seed was just renamed to Game Center Preview as opposed to be a new artifact.

I backed up my phone and then did a restore, which made iTunes download OS4 and reinstall it. I mainly did that because my battery seemed to be draining FAST with OS4 GM installed.

Nothing wrong with reinstalling OS4 to make sure you have the latest version, imo. Even though it's the same build number.

Where's XCode 4? :\ They posted a new XCode 3 today so I'd assume something changed in OS4 today...

sorry, i know it's been said before in this thread but i'm not totally sure about it..

i have the GM, but i'd like to install the public iOS4 build. can someone give me a step by step so i don't totally screw up my phone?

All you have to do is put your phone in DFU restore mode, and it will require you to download the official release inorder to update.
