Thanks for the advise, but as that this thread has been resurrected for no apparent reason (not treason) and the issue is long forgotten, and I just checked the message and sender again, and it seems that poster got banned in May anyway, thus no real need to report it.

@spinnerlys - Guilty for resurrecting this thread as I found it relevant to my experience. I have found the discussion helpful. It is true that if you look at awkward posts and use a little research through the originators other posts a pattern tends to emerge. Much more good in these forums though than the occasional bad. :)

I've always the assumption whatever happens in PM (PRIVATE MESSAGE) remains private to both parties, and that insults should not be reported to admins. I mean, what is the point of private message if you get the admins/moderators involved and they start reading our PMs. It's a complete invasion of privacy. If you don't want to engage someone who is abusive in PM, don't reply back and/or put the person on ignore.

I've learned a lot reading this topic:

1) grow some balls
2) private messages should be private between both parties only
3) admins can read our PMs anytime they want, they may even read our PMs for fun
4) reporting PMs makes you a snitch

ps. I have never and will never insult someone in PM. it's just not cool. if you do insult someone, best to do it as publicly as possible.

People have different tolerance levels of course, but insulting behaviour is insulting behaviour whether it happens in public or private. Personally, I think the problem lies with the individual sending the insults rather than the receiver for choosing to report it.

3) admins can read our PMs anytime they want, they may even read our PMs for fun
Previous answers from our mighty leaders on this matter suggest that, although possible, it's not quite as straightforward as just having a quick browse through our PMs while having a break in between banning folk and deleting spam.

4) reporting PMs makes you a snitch

... a libertarian view and in general I would agree with 2. 1 and 4 tend to be the arguments in a "survival of the fittest" world view and criminal underworld mantras that suit their way of working, some would say bullying (stronger v weaker). In civilised societies we have tended to delegate responsibility for these things to law enforcement and authorities (such as moderators) and try to collectively protect the weaker (or injured/insulted party). But I accept that is only one viewpoint and I would prefer not to say whether its mine and don't think its relevant to the argument.

Easily fixed:

1) grow some balls
Accepting insults has little to do with one's manhood.

2) private messages should be private between both parties only
That does not mean there should be a free range for someone to insult another member

3) admins can read our PMs anytime they want, they may even read our PMs for fun
I certainly hope not given that its a private message

4) reporting PMs makes you a snitch
That sounds so adolescent, if a member has crossed the line, the person has a right to report him and the insulter face the consequences of his (or her) actions.

I get them often but have never reported them. I just got one this morning that I think I'll report for kicks. :)

One's secondary genitalia has nothing to do with one's tolerance for insults, btw, I did laugh when I got that PM. I wasn't insulted, as it was an immature attempt at riling me off and the culprit has not even responded to my reply, which was in no way insulting just stating the facts to things s/he alluded to.

2) private messages should be private between both parties only
According to the rules, they are.

3) admins can read our PMs anytime they want, they may even read our PMs for fun
Why should they, they have hardly any time at all when they work the regular fora.

4) reporting PMs makes you a snitch
It does not, I learnt it the hard way, even though it was in a more real environment than here. I was in a clinic for people getting away from drug abuse and once I abused drugs with other people while in there (nowadays I look at it as a good learning experience) and two days later I reported myself, but not the others. Due to the regulations, "don't bring drugs into the compound", which I didn't, I would have been let go, as my fake story included myself as the one getting the drugs into the clinic and using it there. One of the others, who did take the drug with me, came forward the next day, but the actual person to bring the drug into the clinic was not even in the clinic due to some problems at home he had to take care of.
We, the ones that came forward, were still protecting that absent person and risking our therapy for it, because we thought, being a snitch is bad. In some circumstances it is, when life and death or some similar circumstances are involved, but in this case, we had to learn, that we are there to protect OURSELVES, that's why many came in the first place, as taking drugs is harming oneself.
In the end we reported that absent person and he got thrown out, turns out, he was using illegal substances to gain muscle strength and was drinking while at home, but still lying about it.

The moral of that story: not every one is a snitch for reporting an irregularity, especially one that harms or will harm oneself.

Sorry for going off the road like this, I just were at that clinic yesterday for our annual reunion - less and less people one knew come though, which is kind of sad.

As strange as it may sound, I would like to read some of those, just for the kicks of it. ;)
And as you're are a polarising woman (I got caught in it once or twice, until I learnt the charm of it), you might get more of these, I guess anyway. :)

@DylanLikesPorn;

By the way no problems with your name.

It is worth saying that the "survival of the fittest" is a respectable, legitimate philosophical viewpoint if unfashionable these days. Some would say the WWII was a consequence but I'm no historian, or philosopher but just have an amateur interest. If the outcome was reversed who knows we may be living in that kind of world.

MR is a private forum and really we are guests of the owners so it would seem a common courtesy to accept the rules of our community.

Or dude, who really knows? :D

Just side-effects of the never ending September, forget about it and keep on.

Maybe posting answers instead of "Please use MRoogle" over and over again would help, wouldn't it?

I provide answers and add MRoogle as an additional tool for the OP to find answers him or herself. Why shall I give all the food when I can show how one can get food?

Btw, did you realise the date of the creation of this thread?
