That about sums it up i think...tomorrow is gonna be stressful (And i have an exam :( )
Me too... I have to study and type a bio project tonight...

I will stop in my homeroom (nice teacher, who will let me use her computer, and give me a pass to go to her room) around 10:30 to check up on any news. I then have a test next period, which I will fail if the the x86 switch is true because my mind will be racing with terrible thoughts.

Hi
This Think Secret "thing" is quite boggling and for once, helpless.
1) Think Secret isn't saying anything because they know it is bullplop
2) Think Secret isn't saying anything because they have a boat load of Apple hitman persuading them to be silent about this, and it is true
Or more simply they don't have any sources in the Intel camp (like Cnet, WSJ, likely have) and it is the Intel camp that is leaking information while the Apple camp is staying quiet (fear of being caught knowing Apple is actively hunting leakers is likely helping to keep them quiet at least quieter).

What is WSJ and CNET track records? I know the CNET review articles are generally poor quality and full of hype.

 if apple do switch my loyalty will be gone i'll stick with my g4 for the rest of my life
Why? What if it is a Mac, a good Mac, a true Mac, a fast Mac (and/or power efficient Mac), a Mac that runs Mac OS X, a Mac more ready for volume shipment, and one that could possibly run Windows software at native speeds.

Also don't presume it would be an x86 chip.... it could simply be a PPC made by Intel.

I have this question if this rumor of Apple switching to x86 prooves to be true :
why introduce a mac mini based on the G4 so close for such a migration. I just bought one (still at customs) and would be majorly pissed if it appeared I have just bought dead technology. Why would Apple make such a move just before such a drastic migration. it seems more likely they would keep their gunpowder dry (cheap mac for switchers) for after the migration.
If they will really do it, it sounds more like a panic decision made the last few months / perhaps even weeks that might cost them dearly. They better have a good reason for this.

I'm starting to wonder more and more about this rumour..
Apple is supposed to be opening something like 25 more stores worldwide in the next year.If they switched to X86 I don't think the retail portion of Apple would hold up under that type of pressure..
Doesn't make sense.Opening new stores then making a switch that could keep those stores from opening..
Something's afoul here folks..
It's either a leak to find the moles or Intel is gonna make the new and improved PPC.

I've been thinking the same thing too.........perhaps there is "some" truth in the rumour, but it isn't quite what we think it is.

If Apple does move to x86 you can say goodbye to Ms Office for Mac.

How can Apple possibly handle that?

If that happens...I feel really bad for the people I know who are still using the very old G3 iBooks as there computers and were waiting till the summer 2006 area to get a new one...they'll have to wait till 2007! Nightmare.

Maybe because if Apple doesn't make the move, they're dead anyways since their laptop lines haven't gone /anywhere/ in the last 12 months.
So as soon as the chip provider hits the wall Apple should change platform??? There are more to computers than just raw speed, like stability, virus free environment

So if they did go with intel, would mac come with tacky badges?

I heard that Intel provides a financial incentive to companies that put the Intel Inside logo in their ads and on the computers they sell.

Fortunately, I doubt Steve would allow a tacky sticker to tarnish a beautiful Mac. If anything, it'll be laser-engraved (and out of immediate sight).

Because microsoft uses and runs windows on the intel processers

Nah, I already quit waiting...bought a mini.

Ok guys, I've been reading alot of posts (thousands) for the past few days and this is what I think is the most likely case:
-Apple has developed Tiger for future 64bit intel chips. If this were the case then apple could sell Tiger to any company providing high end processors- this would be a great way to steal the market from Windows because not many people want to spend money when they already have an OS however the next computer they buy they can get Tiger which will be optimised for using 64 bit processing. So yes I believe that this is a switch to selling OSX to intel computers and not intel into mac computers. If apple does this they can still sell mac hardware because it will be based on the PPC architechture which will always be backward compatible for us who have been using it for years AND will give us simply a greater option, PPC or Intel for our processing power.

..

dead technology? well considering the G4 is several years old, its just old technology, not dead. I also had a Mini for awhile (my switch mac) and it did its job very well in fact, quite worth the money and I bought a Powerbook because it was so fantastic. But with any technology, its outdated the day after you bought it, so get used to it.

That mini will run the best OS in the world safe and securely with the best software package (iLife 05) for years to come. Why discount it because of a 'potential' news announcement? Its a good machine, not GREAT but you didn't buy it for expansion and super speed.

LOL: when I was your age, Apple had just released the IIe!

May I ask why? Why did you not feel this way when Apple moved from Moto to IBM? Do you just simply hate Intel? What if they came out with a new processor separate from the Pentium, or took over production of the PPC, and gave Apple significantly more powerful processors than the existing G5s? Just curious....

Mr Maui said:
Why would IBM not want to license the PPC to Intel. Then IBM can sit back and collect licensing fees without having to lift a finger, nor having to listen to Apple or anyone else complaining because they are not meeting the production schedules / deadlines. Let that be Intel's problem. IBM could sit back and focus on PPC design. Thoughts?!?
I agree.... It is a win win position for IBM. If PPC is more or less exclusively IBM property they would just benefit if other chip manufactors would produce PPC under license. Besides, i think that intel wants to get on the PPC boat. Providing Apple with PPC chips would be way to get into that market.

My PowerBook runs on the same RAM (same vendor and model) that I use in my HP built Wintel laptop (got a discount buying the same for both systems).

My PowerMac runs using the same video adapter that my HP built workstation is using (Nvidia 6800 GT).

etc. (don't look at the guts of your PB/PM you may cry)

If folks hate Window / MS so much why not cheer for a way to undermine them.

(note not saying the rumors are true, just outlining what it could mean)
