that would piss off other guys even more. End of the day Apple is not threat of leaving intel and going AMD. The other guys that is a real and viable threat as they already produce AMD power things. It would mean they would up their order of AMD CPUs and start cutting back on Intel. Apple does not really have any tools it can use against Intel. On top of that Apple has earned a reputation not to be trusted at all so Apple really does not have any tools to force such an agreement.

What do you mean? Apple already told Intel they need to fix their power consumption or they were going to lose Apple's business. Intel specifically said it was a wake up call for them.

It sure sounds like Apple has some sway with Intel to me.

Dude, I'm still limping on a 2004 PowerBook G4 (12"). I think you'll be fine. I will keep waiting Patiently for the next rev.

Really? Have any links? Because I'm guessing you just made that up.

As an example, Adobe whined about Apple dissing Flash, when it fact Apple told Adobe what they had to do to make Flash viable for mobile. Guess what. By the time Adobe got around to that, some 4 years or so after the warning, HTML5 put an end to Flash on mobile.

You could make the case that Apple pimped Adobe when they killed carbon apps, forcing Adobe to go back and rewrite everything for Cocoa, but at the same time, Apple had been telling everyone that Cocoa was the future.

From where I sit, it was Apple that had to push (threaten to go elsewhere) Intel into making low power processors for the MBA. Now all of the sudden, low power processors are the next big thing, and still the competition needs Intel's financial assistance to become competitive with the MBA.

Same here! Just bought the wife a new 13" MBP to replace her 08 white-book. I'll be updating my 15" 08 MBP during the next update. The hour and a half battery time is killing :)

If anyone remembers, Apple got the Sandybridge in the (early) 2011 MBP's a little earlier than everyone else. Maybe it's just a more exclusive deal for the ivybridge. Seeing as Apple and Intel have a seemingly strong relationship (Thunderbolt?), I would assume it's plausible.

There goes my chances of getting a new computer...

My 2008 MacBook's still fine but it's getting slow...

This is bad.. was hoping to see my iMac in a month or two..

I need to start saving for a Mac Pro, late summer would be my best guess, but I wouldn't mind repurposing a bit of that cash for an iPad 3, and weather permitting, I'm going to stake out a place in line at my local Apple store.

It says the source are "notebook players" so maybe its just notebook parts and the iMac is still on track!!! I'm going to believe that's true.

I'm actually on my third battery. Luckily the replacements came through AppleCare.

My current battery is at 86% health and I'm working very hard to keep it healthy. With 234 charge cycles, it should have a number of charges left, but then again my past two batteries crapped out around this number...

Yeah, I'm hoping so, but it is really starting to show some issues that could become worse pretty soon.

So this is my first post simply because I was really hoping that the MBP would be undated soon. I'm going to hold out at least 4-6 months after their release to get one (so any issues can be resolved) which means no sooner than x-mas time, or even next year.

Really need one for music but just gotta wait.

I guess there just hoping that their old inventory will move if they push back new updates

Hot tip: The current Macbook Pro's kick some mega butt. You can play the waiting game or get started. I have the early 2011 MBP and it shreds. Stoked with it.

"Some" but not much. They buy what... about 5% of Intel CPUs? HP, DELL and other PC makers buy way more than that.

apple my dear apple, give up intel apple! buy amd fully, make it ur own, better calculateing precision, and better for servers usage, and save us from the nervs of intel, amen

Lol.

processing power:watt intel kills AMD.

In other news, AMD are still scrambling to compete with sandy bridge. Not sure if they're faster than first gen core i7 yet or not, but needless to say they're way behind in terms of raw performance, and performance per watt is a joke.

As to USB 3.... meh...

It's been a trend lately that Mobile CPU get released first, and then desktop CPU came up, and some many months after that the enterprise/workstation edition comes into there market.

So yeah, if mobile CPU does not get released first, less likely we'll see IB desktop anytime soon.
Simple reason, mobile CPU has been the moneymaker for some years now.

Yes true, but show me how precise intel is in calculateing;)

desktop CPU for most people is a solved problem. there's no real killer app that needs more CPU than what we currently have (for 99% of people anyway).

mobile is still about "Race to sleep". faster CPU = more idle CPU = less power consumption. So there's plenty of scope for real end-user benefit there. Having a blisteringly fast mobile CPU is a nice side effect - but make a current MBP (for example) actually work hard and listen to the fans :D

"precise enough?"

Apple is having no trouble "digesting their Sandy Bridge notebook inventories" so I think we can agree that Apple should be first in line. :D

Apple has and continues to use this tactic. There are well documented cases of them buying up large quantities of components so they would have first dibs, with the flow on effect being that competitors struggled to get access to parts they needed. They also use large orders as a way to reduce prices. They've done it on flash memory and displays in recent years.

And what is this about Apple not being trusted? They will be under a contractual obligation, and as far as I'm aware Apple hasn't got a history of screwing over suppliers by breaching contracts. They may use their weight in the negotiation stage, but they wouldn't have got to where they are now by illegally breaching deals across the board.

Also most other vendors if you havent noticed are a lot less streamlined in what they provide. Most of the major computer manufacturers already support AMD and will continue to do so for some time. A shortage of CPUs to them would hold them back a few months, but they are in no way dedicated or aligned to either vendor. That and as far as end users go, Sandy Bridge will be fine for the 98% of the population that doesn't know any better.

Also, while I'm not sure what the arrangement was there, Apple had thunderbolt which is an Intel technology well before anyone else did last year.
