I think everyone should ask themselves if we really need all this mumbo jumbo technology. I seriously doubt that most people here use it in any useful way, aside of compensating their deficit in other, likely more important areas of life.

I wonder when Skylark will be able to charge people with some sense.

I, for one, would love to use such "mumbo jumbo technology" to eliminate all the wires everywhere behind my desk connecting to power and external devices and drives.

Well, there is exactly one wire behind my desk that goes out of 27 Cinema Display and one that connects to the laptop. The rest comes wirelessly through my Airport and USB hub, all neatly stored in and on the utility unit. All of this is early 2011 tech, that benefits from using the resources that you were born with.

I guess I wasn't very wise in my choices of hardware purchases through the years. I bought stuff that came with wires.

If you don't want it, don't buy it. The RF output would be sufficiently low enough that if your neighbors used it, it should not affect you.

I don't think so, walls don't stop signals string enough to operate electronics. In addition, knowing Apple they would try to make it standard

So, I take it you don't live anywhere near a planet? To stay away from the electrical fields?

Big difference between man made wi-fi and cell signals and electrical fields in the earth.

The rule at my house is you do not use a portable device when plugged in. All it does it ruin cables. And besides, the Low Battery indicator is a good indicator it's time to do something besides play video games.

Too bad no one needs to do serious work on their MBP and has to have it on power while they are working with it. Stupid rule you have. If you want people to get outside, just kick them outside. Simple.

Children/anarchists. You let me know how you feel when you parent 3 teenagers instead of being the teenager.

It's all iPads here. And they get used laying in different positions on furniture. One of the 4 possible sides is the one with a wire sticking out of it. Frequent damage if used while plugged in. Dare I say....they are using it wrong.

A MBP is better situated for use while plugged in, it is designed to be used that way, even redesigned once because the first magsafe wasn't as good. So, I'm afraid your analogy doesn't really help. Of course, if you are doing "serious work", you aren't going to be laying on a couch, right? So, the stability of the desk/table would also prevent cord damage, theoretically.

I might ask...where did you get the MBP with Lightning for charging?

Are you talking about the same thing?

That's a mistake I wont be making. But I have done lots of work with all different ages of children. And providing them with options of things to do (some did have no cost helps with this.

I see your point. And if that's how you deal with it, good for you :)

Design choice to look old school, yes. But there are no film-winding mechanisms, so clearly not.

Look to lower left of camera, there is black triangle that looks like a winding mechanism. It is hard to see for sure.

Not every film camera has big winding lever. Leica uses a big knob for instance.

I am inclined to believe digital too, but wont be surprised if film.

That's the strap. Someone did identify it already as a Fuji.

Fascinating indeed! Thanks for posting that video.

Imagine entering a building, and your phone starts to charge.

Like an Apple Store? ;)

Think about that kind of user experience. All iOS/OSX devices from the introduction of the tech forward just start to charge when you walk in to browse, or for help. Amazing icebreaker.

Very interesting, especially the thing made to draw energy from the TV towers.

Right? As energy efficiency continues to dominate the way forward, this leads to some really amazing things 15-30 years out.
